Actor Dieter Brummer has avoided a criminal conviction after a scuffle with security staff at the Logie Awards celebrations at Crown Casino in 2011.
The Melbourne Magistrates’ Court ordered Brummer to pay $500 to The Mirabel Foundation, and write a letter of apology by June 25, to avoid a conviction being recorded.
The court heard it was “slightly unusual for cases of this sort of violence” to be placed on diversion programs, but Magistrate Ann Collins noted he had no prior convictions.
“[This] seemed like an incident which I trust is out of character for you,” she said. “Informed by an excess consumption of alcohol, which I trust won’t happen again.”
Brummer, 35, recently appeared on Underbelly and Neighbours, but is best known for Home and Away.
