Former Reality contestant gets 11 years jail

A former contestant on Australian Survivor and Foxtel presenter has been jailed for up to 16 years for attempted murder.

A former contestant on Australian Survivor and Foxtel presenter has been jailed for up to 16 years for attempted murder.

Joel Betts, 32, pleaded guilty to the attempted murder of his girlfriend Samantha Holland after stabbing her and holding her hostage in their Sydney unit in 2010.

The attack left her with more than two dozen stab wounds in her back and neck.

A court heard she was stabbed after going to pick up her possessions after their relationship ended.

Judge Robert Toner described Betts’s crime as “vile” and said Ms Holland will live with the “psychological trauma” of what happened to her for the rest of her life.

Broadcaster Alan Jones came to court to hear the sentence after providing a character reference for Betts, who he says he has known for 10 years.

Betts also hosted the The Joel Betts Show for Foxtel in which he interviewed celebrities such as Cate Blanchett and Russell Crowe. He founded his own marketing company Won Group and also used to work for Opposition Treasury spokesman Joe Hockey as a volunteer.

  1. So glad you referred to him as a “former reality contestant” not a “star” as other media outlets have.

    Reality contestants are not stars…
