Jason Donovan confirmed as I Will Survive judge

TEN confirms the rumours and adds more star power to its upcoming talent show.

Following earlier speculation, Jason Donovan has now been confirmed to judge TEN’s talent show I Will Survive, joining director Stephan Elliott.

Donovan played the role of Tick in the London production of Priscilla the Musical, the drag queen role that is the basis of the new talent show.

His stage credits also include Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, The Rocky Horror Show, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Sound of Music and Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds. He will also be a mentor on ITV’s Superstar, looking for a lead for Jesus Christ Superstar.

“It’s fantastic to be back in Australia and to join the IWS journey as a judge. I’ve spent many years working in film, TV and stage shows and I know first-hand the hard work, dedication and skill required to make it in this profession. Commitment and passion is just as important as being the best dancer, singer and actor,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to sharing my knowledge and experience with the contestants and spending some time on the road. It will be quite an adventure.”

TEN’s Chief Programming Officer David Mott added: “Jason is a superb addition to the I Will Survive team and he brings a phenomenal amount of industry experience with which to mentor the contestants. We’re thrilled to have lured him back to Australian audiences, and particularly home to Network TEN.”

The series, hosted by Hugh Sheridan, is currently shooting with twelve “triple-threat performers” vying for a chance to showcase their talents on Broadway.

With Priscilla closing in New York next month, TEN has now revised its prize as follows:

– A phenomenal cash prize of $250,000
– Unique and exciting opportunity for a promotional performance on Broadway
– One month’s accommodation in New York City to explore US opportunities
– Representation with an established US agent

I Will Survive will air later in 2012.
