ABC has renewed high-profile shows Grey’s Anatomy, Modern Family, Revenge, Once Upon a Time, Castle plus The Middle and Suburgatory.

Grey’s Anatomy cast members Ellen Pompeo, Patrick Dempsey, Sandra Oh, Justin Chambers, Chandra Wilson and James Pickens Jr. all have contracts due to expire at the end of the current eighth season. Showrunner Shonda Rhimes has prepared a season finale that left the door open for them to potentially exit or return next year.

As yet there is no word on Private Practice with Rhimes also attached to Scandal and Gilded Lilys.

Castle will return for a fifth season, reaching 100 episodes next season.

Modern Family will return for a fourth season. The show is ABC’s No. 1 scripted comedy series despite dropping numbers this season. The six adult cast members are known to be looking for hefty salary raises in the vicinity of $200,000 per episode, up considerably from the $65,000 they currently make (Ed O’Neill earns more).

Once Upon a Time, which premieres next week in Australia on Seven, drew 13 million viewers and a 4.0 in the adult demographic, ABC’s best debut in five years. For ABC it also helped prop up the departing Desperate Housewives.

Revenge starring Emily Van Camp and Madeline Stowe has been a huge hit for both ABC and Seven with a strong female audience and wins its second season.

Suburgatory and The Middle which both air in Australia on GO! are also renewed.

Happy Endings and Body of Proof are also expected to be renewed.

Meanwhile in other news, Cougar Town moves to cable broadcaster TBS for its fourth season.

Re: Greys I think the show has enough legs to continue without most of the original cast as other characters have been cleverly woven in! I think the show is bigger than most of the stars! I would miss Chandra Wilson and Sandra Oh, but Ellen & Patrick have never been must watch characters! Hope others agree & viewers stay for Season 9.

Cougar town getting renewed is the best news in a long time. Easily the most underrated comedy on television.

David I’ve noticed. I just meant there’s a whole lot of stories there today. Definitely enough to keep you busy. Commiserations. Although a lot is good news.

Yes! More Revenge! Will be very interested in where season 2 will go.
Surely someone will have to get the better of Emily sooner or later?

Thanks David for this news. Especially Castle and Once Upon a Time even if I’ve only seen the ads for the latter. You should check out Deadline Hollywood.

I just wanted to add Modern Family stills holds up well against American Idol and almost matches it in the target demo.

In addition, it gets the biggest gains over any other show in time shift DVR ratings. Love Modern Family
