Returning: The Amazing Race Australia

By David Knox on May 21, 2012 / Filed Under Programming 14

Eleven teams of racers will travel more than 65,000 kilometres across 4 continents in the long-awaited season of The Amazing Race Australia, hosted by Grant Bowler.

This season includes some international firsts including never before seen destinations, Must Vote U-Turns and a controversial new Salvage Pass on the first leg of the Race.

On offer is another $250,000 prize.

The race begins in Sydney.

A truly diverse group of Aussie racers will circumnavigate the globe, unsure of what challenges lie ahead. The Race will be fast-paced, unrelenting, and test their stamina and personal relationships.

9pm Wednesday May 30th on Seven.

The Voting U-Turns is a twist from the Israeli version of TAR (called ‘The Race To The Million’) which also is produced by Active TV.

Basicily at the start of each leg teams vote for who should be u-turned. Then after the detour teams are shown who voted for them and if they are u-turned.

The Salvage Pass is a new twist and this is the 1st ever season it is shown on.

So if I set my PVR for 9-11 I could miss the end if it starts at the “new” time of 9:22! I am over “reality talent” shows not being edited appropriately!

Gonna give this a miss, from the way seven treated the US version

@stilesy: the premiere episode will be 90 minutes long.

Because letting players vote to eliminate (as the U-Turn has pretty much been a death knell since it was first introduced in the US version) has worked so well for Australian reality shows in the past…

Interesting that the producers are using new items (Salvage Pass , compusory U-Turn) in the Aussie version first. Maybe they are using it as a testing ground for the original. The creators would be very protective of their brand.

Is it going to be on at 9.00pm every week? and also is the premiere episode 60 mins or 90 mins long?.

Can’t wait but the timeslot is way too late for Amazing Race. Its a reality show not a drama Seven!!!

Glad it is back! Not sure about the 9pm start time, plus the always late finishing AGT…
Looks like PVR will be programmed for an 11pm finish…

Can’t wait! :) Salvage Pass, eh? And Must Use U-Turns? Gold!

Good time slot for exposure – being the AGT lead out should give it a good chance in the ratings. Shame that it also means that it will also start late every week!

What timeslot will the show be getting after the premiere episode?
