Rumour: Foxtel to drop plans for Got to Dance

By David Knox on May 11, 2012 / Filed Under Pay TV 5

Applications for contestants close on Monday but TV Tonight is hearing that Foxtel won’t be continuing with Got to Dance.

Andrew Gunsberg had already been announced as host.

Plans for a local series of the UK format already have a tricky past. The show from Shine Australia was originally due to air in 2011 but delayed to 2012.

TEN is currently auditioning for Everybody Dance Now from FremantleMedia Australia.

Both shows embrace solos, duos, group of any age and any style, leaving them with limited point of difference.

Foxtel has not responded to a request for comment.

Do we really need another talent quest with over emotional, over dramatic and over tortured people. Josh777, it’s a bit of a big call to say these shows have any impact on the (albeit) small Australian Dance Industry. Fact: Australia does not have the population numbers to sustain so many talent quests (or endless talent i.e real talent). One time contestant on one show is a judge on another, one performer is a contestant on another and one host is the host for the same sort of but not really show. After a while they all blend into one. No wonder Foxtel is having second thoughts.

How apt that the headline at a quick glance reads…

“Rumour: Foxtel to drop plans forgot to Dance”

The American version crashed and burned on ABC (where I believe Andrew G was also the host), so I’m not surprised they wouldn’t bother with it here

Absolutely rediculous! First FOX8 delay the series by a year as they brought the rights to Got To Dance U.S., then they cancel it all together. If TEN treat this new show the same way they treated So You Think You Can Dance Australia in its last season, not to mention the Don’t Stop Believing show that died before it even started, then they will only kill the Australian dance industry even more. I hope I’m wrong and that TEN do a great job on this new show, but I can’t help but make assumptions based on their track record.
