Stubble trouble for Hamish Macdonald

By David Knox on May 31, 2012 / Filed Under News 17

Maybe it’s just a ploy to get people to tune into the first episode, but there’s a rather silly debate in the media today about whether Hamish Macdonald should be cleanshaven for TEN Late News, or can keep his stubble.

Seriously?

What a lot of nonsense.

To begin with Macdonald has fair-coloured hair anyway.  He’s not about to present on camera like someone from Bikie Wars. I’m sure he’s capable of keeping it

Why is it ok for Charlie Pickering on The Project but not Hamish Macdonald? And what was wrong with the stubble he had when the network aired Bikie Wars: Here & Now?

Macdonald is of the belief that keeping it would add to the show’s relaxed, informal style. And he’s right.

The real point here is to let Macdonald be himself. That’s what helped him get to where he is today.

Aren’t there more important things to address?

It’s two days to go and still have not seen any promotion about this show. Amazing!!!

I’m more concerned that he doesnt wear those plaid shirts he’s sported on more than a few occasions.

Ten should have spent more time coming up with a new name for the show than worrying about stuble. Musical items on Ten Late News? Cringeworthy. Ten Late News is an institution. Shouldn’t be touch by anyone other than the Queen of News herself, Ms Sully

Bring back the Sandra Sullys and the hot news girls. Isn’t that what late night news on Ten was always about???

Good point @Andrew: I’d have no idea about this show if it wasn’t for this site. There has been no advertising at all!

The format doesn’t suit the name Ten Late News, initially people will assume it is the old format and possibly not watch, thinking it is just news. They should have left it with Ten Newsnight.

I’ve put it in the PVR for next week, adding 30 mins to the end time, as I know it will start 14 mins late, and end late.

Do people really care about this?

Back off TEN… leave Hamish alone!

No seriously though… if TEN want this programme to resonate with their target demographic, leave Hamish to make up his own decisions on facial hair. He’s popular, a great presenter, a very smart journalist… the new ‘TEN Late News’ is meant to be a more relaxed programme than its previous incarnation fronted by Sandra Sully. It airs at 10.30pm and will have live music performances… who cares if he has some stubble!

Late night news viewers who want a serious news programme free from stubble already watch Lateline or World News Australia anyway…

I think people should be more concerned about the content and quality of the program not whether or not he’s had a shave.

Some advertising for the new show wouldn’t go astray either. Apart from riveting conversations about facial hair does anyone know this show is about to begin?

I don’t care about the stubble.

Hamish is intelligent and freaking hot. A terrific combination and will watch the show for sure.

No to stubble, but Yes to Lara Bingle? Seriously TEN?

I hate the stubble look..it’s one reason I hardly watch the Project as Charlie looks ridiculous..I can’t bear to look at the fuzz and am glad managemtbt is taking this stand

Let him keep it. You can be guaranteed I will watch it.

Where is the law that you need to be clean shaven to be taken seriously. Has someone told George Negus that?

  12. JB May 31, 2012 at 9:06 am -

Don’t care, stubble or not he’s smoking hot. Let him have his shirt unbuttoned too. Or if he really wants informal just no shirt at all.

  13. tomothyd May 31, 2012 at 8:58 am -

It suits him, I go to work everyday with stubble, I hate being clean shaven. This is his look, it is who he is, and he looks great doing it.

  14. D@GP May 31, 2012 at 8:56 am -

Thought he’d be a role model for the TEN viewers… after all, most of the network’s target demographic are too young to shave …

As the cliche goes, ‘he could sing the phonebook’ – he could wear the phone book and still look and sound great and be a terrific presenter and journo. What a load of……

The stubble look is scruffy and manky. He needs to be clean shaven to be taken seriously.

Let Hamish keep it. I’d watch for the stubble alone. It was ok for him to keep it when he was reporting for 6.30..
