Big Brother Up Late coming to GO!

By David Knox on June 12, 2012 / Filed Under News 50

No surprises here….

An “up late” off-shoot of Big Brother will air on GO! when the Reality juggernaut launches on Nine after the Olympics.

Nine is promising a “family friendly” edition at 7pm, but it remains to be seen how racy a late-night edition will be on its digital channel.

The Up Late series previously hosted by Mike Goldman on TEN was very popular with fans, and included content that couldn’t be screened earlier in the night, including nudity.

Having a late night edition on its digital channel will add to Nine’s overnight network shares, rather than seeing numbers on GO! taper off.

The announcement was made this morning by Nine Entertainment Co.’s group sales and marketing director Peter Wiltshire before key media buyers.

    To #justbee

I do believe he will “return” but there are conditions about it. Like David said “it will be more a family friendly version” However i do believe mike goldman will return but only on different part of the Big brother show… More perhaps where they might have the big brother – game show Or whatever the case may be. Who knows it is quite too early to fully predict what is going to be like what is going to be about other then the big brother – updates after the ACA. But i have the sense that Mike goldman will return but doing something diferent. Could be the part where they might do the games only.. I also have a feeling that (thursday nights) there will be a big brother game show… Does anyone remember that back in 2002/2003 ? it used to have one on a thursday night inside the big brother house and that all the housemates had to guess questions been answered and or find the keys to win 500.00 dollars and more or free chocolate bar or such.

Uplate will not be the same without Mike Goldman, he is the one that made it so popular. We need Mikey to have something to do with Big Brother since he is not hosting (shame channel 9 he would of been the perfect host)

    Mikey to do Uplate…Pleeeeaase

  4. Grays June 14, 2012 at 3:26 pm -

watching mike Goldman is like watching an hour long Amart sport’s ad, no thanks.

  5. vos June 14, 2012 at 10:52 am -

Great news. I first didn’t new (big brother – up late) would ever return and specially on channel 9. But from what you heard from the media it seems like new thing for channel 9.

I because i know how to predict things as ive been following this forum for a very long time since the start of 2012. And each time i predict such thing for BB i am always right and there you go. Instead of been back stap. Now… I do believe Mike Goldman will return and because he was quite popular in the uplate of big brother on channel 9 im sure channel 9 has him allready sign the contract, But to keep it a top secret to the rest of the world. Mike nows he is actually returning but on channel 9 as new.

Go channel which is part of ch9 is that channel lets me (record with a digital standard dvd recorder machine or is GO channel some kind of HD channel as HD channels will not record unless i have a HD recorder dvd machine.

Anyhow this is great news. However… Go channel needs to change the ugly logo something alittle more profetional and change the promos style and visual effects.. At this stage Go channel looks like some 80s retro boring visual channel. For these who don’t no what im talking about.. Look at Go channel how big the logo is on the screen. Very eye sore. I beleive there will be a eye with Go name ontop of that for the logo.

Announced by Media Spy the uplate edition will air at 9pm weeknights earlier then I expected

  7. mook June 13, 2012 at 8:44 pm -

Please, don’t bother with Up Late unless Mike Goldman is hosting it. I know we all said the same thing about Big Brother and Gretal – Kyle and Jackie O killed it for Ten, and as it is we are going to have to see how we go with Sonia, so please Channel 9, for even just some of us purists, give us Mike at least for Up Late. If you throw in Bree as well, I will be one happy fan. Thousand Bucks Five Minutes!!!!! Bring Back Mike and Bree for late nite TV!

  8. dan June 13, 2012 at 4:31 pm -

Yes I totally agree you need mike goldman hosting up late or what ever they call it I also agree that the housemates should not be allowed to talk about nominations I dont like it that he uk version lets them talk about it now

I agree that BBUK is not the same without Davina but I still like it

  9. karawench June 13, 2012 at 4:20 pm -

Ever since Up Late begun.. Mike Goldman kept us watching. He kept late night TV entertaining for the entire time BB was on – which is a bloody hard job to do! Even when the housemates are sleeping, Mike made it interesting. It would be great to see Mike back on the couch for Up Late!

  10. Cam Reed June 13, 2012 at 3:14 pm -

With Nine showing stuff on GO! with cussing etc like for one The Inbetweeners at 9:30pm in the past, that time-slot would be good for a later version of Big Brother as the house would still be up and 9:0pm is not as restricted (and more convenient for most people).

  11. BonnyEagle June 13, 2012 at 3:12 pm -

Mike must be host, he knows the show better than anyone & has a style of humour that suits BB to a T!! I also hope that Aus BB doesn’t change the rules & allow noms discussions like UK have, once that happens all the sheep follow & the whole show turns too predictable.

  12. roundman June 13, 2012 at 2:18 pm -

Natalie Garonzi would have me turning off, Goldmans the man for anything Big Brother

  13. Hermykins June 13, 2012 at 12:53 pm -

BB needs UpLate to make the show work – it’s a chance to get to know the housemates without fierce editing – and when we know the housemates, we are interested in them and we watch the show. I used to look forward to UpLate when there we tasks on – and it’s all about the humour – make me laugh! Which leads me to Mike Goldman – I am hoping because we saw a glimpse of him on Channel 9 a couple of weeks ago he is now part of their “stable” and is once again taking the show on. It has to be Mike; funny and clever enough to make the show flow when the housemates were asleep. Some of BB’s funniest moments happened on UpLate – and not all by the housemates, Mike was hilarious at times. So, let’s keep hoping – we’ve now been assured of UpLate, which we were all hoping for, let’s hope the next thing we hear is that Mike is hosting. Considering it’s the old fans leading the news ones to it – and we all want Mike – let’s hope we have a good chance of seeing Mike on UpLate again.

  14. Tempest June 13, 2012 at 11:33 am -

Natalie Garonzi is more annoying than anything.

I think Bree would be annoying in a lesser way.

  15. imaketheshow June 13, 2012 at 10:21 am -

Might I suggest Natalie Garonzi as host of Uplate? She did a great job on the Xtra Factor (so much better than Luke Jacobz) and she was pretty great on that Up Late! show on GO! earlier this year.

  16. lisa June 13, 2012 at 10:19 am -

Mike Goldman is the obvious choice, it wouldn’t be BB without him. Put someone else in, they’ll stuff it up and you will regret not having Mike there. Keep the winning formula :)

  17. claudettem June 13, 2012 at 10:02 am -

Mike goldman is the show of uplate, i think you would be doing damage to the show if you don’t use him! Also Bree Amer was fantastic too and she should be considered! Looking forward to seeing channel 9 version i hope it’s a winner!

  18. Jake June 13, 2012 at 9:02 am -

Big Brother should never have returned to television….shame on you Channel 9…..

  19. WhatUpp June 13, 2012 at 8:49 am -

It will not be family friendly, but there has been both positive and negative feedback of the return of Big Brother in general. I am curious as to whether people are going to watch, I hope they do. It was a great show in its early years and spiralled downhill in them last couple of seasons. Uncut is an element of the show that must be included and GO! is a great channel for that to be on. They should have a channel that streams live, 24/7 but that is a little far fetched. I hope they make this show back into what it was not what is become. Good to hear they are using the same music, happy about that. Season 8′s was crap.

  20. Smurfcentral June 13, 2012 at 7:54 am -

They definitely need to bring back Mike Goldman to host the new uplate.

Absolutely amazingly funny guy made the show and wouldnt be the same without him

  21. David Knox June 12, 2012 at 11:52 pm -

I am hearing it won’t be Mike Goldman, but I agree he was great here.

  22. SheTappens June 12, 2012 at 11:47 pm -

Mike Goldman was the reason why BB Up Late was so popular. His quick wit, flippancy and cheeky humour surpasses every so called comedian we have in Australia. Never a dull moment with Mike…… I hope 9 gets it right and gives the viewers what they want. Please.

  23. A. June 12, 2012 at 11:16 pm -

I’ll admit I hope it doesn’t mess up Fringe or Chuck or their repeats. Otherwise not a problem.

  24. fuschia June 12, 2012 at 11:03 pm -

Would be great to see Mike Goldman as the Host for UpLate again, he has been terribly missed. Couldn’t think of any one better tbh

  25. FlyingHigh June 12, 2012 at 10:42 pm -

Yesssssss.. bring back Uplate! But it would not be the same without the host with the most :-) and we all know who that is.. the incredibly funny, charming and the very talented Mike Goldman! Channel Nine, you know what to do if you the ratings up :-) Need we say more…….

  26. thunderchaser June 12, 2012 at 10:37 pm -

Fantastic…I cant wait…. but the obvious choice is Mike Goldman to host it..

  27. Brett Hastie June 12, 2012 at 9:55 pm -

Mike Goldman has to be the clear and obvious choice to host, the guy was the spark previously I think they would struggle to find someone as in touch with all things BB as Goldy!!

  28. clofts June 12, 2012 at 8:53 pm -

They should just make the entire show adults only like in the UK.. its an adult show not a family show..

  29. Tempest June 12, 2012 at 8:41 pm -

It really is a no brainer. More hours of Oz programming and the need of (very) big brother fans.

Usually the Uplate is a lot of watching people sleep, but can often be very entertaining…

I will be very impressed if they can sort out a decent live feed, as that is where the true entertainment gold (and forums going crazy and building more of an audience…) will be.

I for one will be waiting… and anticipating.

  30. roundman June 12, 2012 at 8:11 pm -

They need to bring back Mike Goldman to host the new uplate. He was fantastic and really made the show flow and funny.

  31. Aaron June 12, 2012 at 8:03 pm -

Big Brother should never be promoted as a “family-friendly” show – thats where Ten went wrong, dumbed it down so much (eg Friday Night Games) that the point of the program was lost. You can’t put a pile of random strangers in a house, poke and prod them, and expect it all to be PG13 happy families.

Up Late is a good idea (bringing back Mike would be great too!), but please, Big Brother… leave your big fat beefy wallet at home this time.

As for BBUK, sadly lost interest after it moved to Channel 5 – not the same without Davina (can’t stand the new bloke).

  32. David Knox June 12, 2012 at 7:40 pm -

Don’t anticipate an Up Late like the former Up Late.

Daily show has never been live, because the house doesn’t suddenly spring to life at 7pm. Edited is better.

  33. Mac June 12, 2012 at 7:06 pm -

So the same turgid crud in exactly the same format with zero point of difference from the original. Channel 9 should be ashamed if there weren’t apparently tonnes of easily entertained amoeba out there ready to suckle on it’s garbage encrusted teat.

  34. Jason D. June 12, 2012 at 6:50 pm -

I’m looking forward to BB this year. I hope it’s not a disappointment. Does anyone know if there’s going to be a time delay or will it be actually live?

  35. dan June 12, 2012 at 5:38 pm -

This is the best news I have heard since It was announced that BB was coming back I loved up late but I do agree that I didn’t like the quiz parts of it what I saw on update would sometime influence on who I voted for I can’t wait to see it back

@nrc_02 here here well said i 100% agree with everything you said

    @Bogues I am also watching BBUK 13

  36. fromthedale June 12, 2012 at 5:35 pm -

I think an hour show of edited content for M15+ viewers from 9.30 and then direct feeds from 10.30 would be the best for this show on GO!

  37. FanOfTen June 12, 2012 at 5:15 pm -

    Can’t wait!!

  38. nrc_02 June 12, 2012 at 5:05 pm -

Of course, there should be an un-cut uplate show…

Why film people 24/7 then only show all the nice things they say about each other, some of the most interesting conversations involve adult content.

If parents cant stop there kids watching adult content, then thats not BB’s fault.

  39. John Jackson June 12, 2012 at 3:13 pm -

Wooohoo! The last season on 10 suffered when they no longer had the live streaming late at night from the house.

Thank goodness 9 (well Go) is bringing it back! I wonder if Mike Goldman will return too?

  40. Brad June 12, 2012 at 2:57 pm -

It could work out very well for nine if they get a “best of both worlds” scenario going … The family audience can watch at 7 and more “adult” audience can watch later on GO!
If they get rid of the uncut content, it loses a significan element of what the show is and goes into the territory of not accurately presenting he housemates.

  41. idiotbox June 12, 2012 at 2:51 pm -

Must admit I’m a closet BB watcher. That’s great news they’re putting on an Up Late type show on GO. I haven’t watched anything on 9 for years so I’ll have to look for the button on my remote again :) I hope they put it up against Ten’s late news which from what I’ve seen so far isn’t worth watching at that time of night

  42. Dayman June 12, 2012 at 2:27 pm -

It had to have been a must though yeah?

The point of bringing back BB is for lots of content for digital channels.

I hope they start it at 9.30 or something.

    Being on GO!, why not?

They have NINE and GEM for other stuff.

  43. David Knox June 12, 2012 at 1:01 pm -

Think it will be a challenge to relaunch BB as a family friendly show if there is uncut content, even in a later timeslot. Yes technically it’s achievable but I think image-wise Nine will be wanting to avoid the show being tarred with previous brushes. Up Late (assuming it’s even called that) will need a host and some structure with the option for live feeds. The latter is usually incredibly dull, you need to be able to drop in / drop out or have it entirely edited.

  44. MillerT1 June 12, 2012 at 12:46 pm -

I agree Sammo360. We don’t want a Big Brother/Quizmania Up-Late show. Get rid of the games and maybe the show can be a mixture of live feed from the house and uncut content.

Hope it starts at an earlier time than it did on Ten. It usually started after the Late News which would usually be 11:15. Hope they start it at 10:30. If Nine wanted the show to help with GO’s Late Night shares than 11:30 is probably too late to make a huge difference. 10:30 start would also be a contrast to Ten’s offering and Seven and Nine’s usual procedural shows.

  45. Ren June 12, 2012 at 12:41 pm -

I hope they put some effort and funds into it. Even showing unseen clips and conversations from the day that they couldn’t put into the PG timeslot.

  46. Bogues June 12, 2012 at 12:34 pm -

I’m currently watching BB UK 13, in which the daily show is shown at 9pm, and is the equivalent of a M rated show (mainly for language and adult themes).

Great to hear that GO! will return the uplate shows though. There goes my sleep for a few months.

  47. imaketheshow June 12, 2012 at 12:27 pm -

Excellent news – I’m really hoping they adopt the ‘Bit On The Side’ late-night format as they do in the UK.

@Sammo360 – I remember eagerly awaiting HotDog’s show when it premiered at midnight, only to find out it was a rubbish quiz-type show. So disappointed!

  48. deedeedragons June 12, 2012 at 12:21 pm -

    Yes!

  49. Sammo360 June 12, 2012 at 12:16 pm -

Hopefully it doesn’t turn out like BB Uplate on Ten, which eventually spawned those horrible late night quiz shows. Anyone remember HotDogs?

  50. Jake S June 12, 2012 at 11:56 am -

Good call Nine … that’s half the problem with BB, you can’t show anything interesting at 7pm, so an Uplate edition is a must!

Personally I hope the Adults Only / Big Mouth show also returns somewhere after dark.
