If it’s Monday it must be Nine

Ratings: The end of a public holiday weekend delivered big numbers to Nine's powerhouse double of The Voice and The Block (updated).

The end of a public holiday weekend delivered big numbers once again, and many of them went to Nine’s powerhouse double of The Voice and The Block.

The Voice pulled 2.15m viewers for the episode in which it chose the final four: Karise, Rachel, Sarah and Darren. The Block was also a force to be reckoned with on 1.48m viewers. Nine easily won the night against Seven and TEN, the latter just falling in front of ABC1.

Also strong for Nine were Nine News (1.28m), then ACA (1.13m). With The Voice running overtime Tricky Business was 1.09m in preliminary figures but is expected to be adjusted to 682,000 (to be confirmed). Hot Seat was 706,000.

Seven News dominated with 1.55m and Today Tonight nudged 1.3m viewers. Revenge turned out to be a clip highlights special but managed 1.21m, Home and Away was 1.00m, then The Force (998,000), Border Security (924,000), Body of Proof (623,000 / 381,000), Deal or No Deal (519,000 in 4 states).

ABC News was 1.05m on ABC1 then Q & A with guest Julia Gillard (736,000), Four Corners (734,000), Australian Story (719,000) and Media Watch (712,000). 7:30 ranked at 646,000.

Mythbusters was 222,000 on SBS ONE and World News Australia was 198,000.

Neighbours led multichannels with 323,000. Further behind were Spartacus: Vengeance at 99,000, Dollhouse at 90,000 and Fringe at 63,000.

  1. Yes i have to agree with everyone else that the clip show was unnecessary but at least Emily VanCamp did a special voice over otherwise it could of been much worse

  2. @Kimbeth – Also if I remember right episode 20 is all flashbacks, nothing current, but the last 2 episodes are great especially the finale.

  3. On a positive note, Ten late news increased!
Monday is seriously death for TEN and they need to launch alot of new programs on that night very soon.

  4. @kimbeth – Last nights episode was not ep 20. Revenge was off the air in the US for about 2 months and when it finally returned they showed our last nights episode to remind people what happened in the last 16 episodes. Now we should get the remaining 6 episodes.

  5. An interesting show I tried last night on Ch 90 was Air Crash Confidential at 8.30pm. It’s similar to Air Crash Investigations although multiple air disasters or near disasters on similar themes. It isn’t as detailed on an individual accident but nor does it repeat itself so much.

P.S. I’ll note I saw the figure change above after I wrote the previous comment.

  6. Thank you David for the figures. 🙂

I’ll admit I’m very glad the ABC repeats Four Corners and Media Watch on Tuesday night although I was upset they didn’t last week. Especially with what they did that week. Not everyone has wonderful internet. That’s why I love the repeats.

I find it interesting that Ten’s Breakfast equalled the ABC News 24 figure. I’ll admit I watched it a bit on 24 as I missed the news the night before so wanted something to fill the gap. I’ll also admit I also flicked around but not for too long and after I was finished with the ABC for at least an hour or more. I see what people mean about the clashing colours on Ten’s show. It’s the least of the problems. Because it was a turn off from a content perspective. But I guess I’m not the target. As I wanted news not gossip.

  7. Yes, the Revenge clip show was very annoying. I found it insulting. I have stuck with it and not switched to the Voice… last night I wish that I had.

  8. The Revenge Clip Show was annoying…just as we were getting somewhere, we stopped for a week to do a re-cap. Guessing that they wanted to get people up to date that hadn’t previously watched, but I was bored by it!

  9. I wondered what the hell Seven were on about in their commercials for Revenge this week. I don’t recall a clip show being aired in the US. Who is that dumb that they need a clip show anyhow.

What bugs me about Nine’s commercials lately, is they no longer give you a time for a show, its always “after The Voice” or “after The Block”. Now I don’t watch either shows, so do not know what time they start or finish, so how am I supposed to know when the following program starts. And its not like they do this within the previous program, they do it up to 5 days in advance. Tonight there is a repeat Big Bang on ‘after The Block’. I have no clue to what time this will be on. Luckily I have all the episodes and don’t watch it on Nine.
