Returning: Gold Week Telethon

By David Knox on June 7, 2012 / Filed Under Programming, Top Stories 9

Channel Nine will broadcast the Gold Week Telethon in aid of the Sydney Children’s Hospital Live next Monday from 9.00am to 4.30pm in New South Wales.

The telethon will be hosted by personalities including Karl Stefanovic, Lisa Wilkinson, Ben Fordham, Deb Knight, Leila McKinnon, Tim Gilbert, Peter Overton, Ken Sutcliffe and Amber Sherlock, with live crosses to Sydney Children’s Hospital throughout the day.

There will also be live crosses to The Voice coaches Keith Urban, Joel Madden, Seal and Delta Goodrem plus live performances from Ricki-Lee Coulter, Jack Vidgen, Damien Leith and Tim Freedman.

Last year’s telethon raised $1.68 million for the hospital, thanks to the generosity of the community and the major partners. The money went towards numerous services and equipment including the construction of a new Childhood Cancer Research Centre, the purchase of a new heart and lung machine, and a clinical trial studying relapsed neuroblastoma patients (a form of childhood cancer).

This year the telethon target is raising $2.2 million to support essential equipment, services and research at Sydney Children’s Hospital.

A host of familiar faces, including Channel Nine stars and sports stars, will support the appeal by taking donations on the phone: Nicole Kidman, Catriona Rowntree, Tracy Grimshaw, Jaynie Seal, Michael Slater, Jesinta Campbell, Nathan Jolliffe, The Block contestants Brad, Lara, Andrew and Mike, House Husbands stars Julia Morris and Anna McGahan, Gigi Edgley and Kip Gamblin from Tricky Business, Australian cricketer Brett Lee and Australian Olympic gold medalists Kerri Pottharst and Debbie Watson.

Re my last question, just noticed NSW gets a double Days of our Lives the following day from 1pm, meaning The View is out on Nine in NSW 2 days in a row.

Let’s not start state wars please… Royal Children’s Hospital has been running for decades, and raises funds all year round.

All charity is good charity…but 1.68 million is pretty poor compared to their southern brothers who in Victoria who can raise 12 times that with a lesser population.

Will Ellen, The View & Days of our Lives be on GEM that day or just out?
