Where’s Hamish?

By David Knox on June 27, 2012 / Filed Under News 8

TEN Late News got very creative last night with Hamish Macdonald perched high above the studio floor.

When news presenter Hermoine Kitson threw to him he was a very long way away.

Macdonald was presenting a story on asylum seekers and cleverly used a wall to display graphics.

Nice to see a bit of a change from the usual desk-bound bulletins.

It’s SBS all the way for me. They can actually start their late news at the advertised time. Commercial networks just treat us with contempt. If Ten could actually start their late news on time then I might give it a go. Tonight (27/6) it looks like they’re starting at 22:44, so 14 minutes “late”. Absolutely useless.

Love what I’ve seen of the show, but TEN’s catchup service is so apalling that it makes it impossible for me to watch it when I want.
Also, this format is so much better than 6PM with George, however the timeslot is so unfortunate. Hamish is a great talent.

Love the graphics etc but the revamped news is still failing to find a solid audience. It’s been on air for a month now but still lags a long way behind its predecessors ratings. With a regular 1030pm starting time Sully’s version would have wiped the floor with MacDonald’s show. He’s been a hit with a very some demographic whilst she had a very loyal following. In my opinion MacDonald comes across a tad arrogant.

Reminds me of an old “Young Ones” episode where they cross to a BBC studio thats filming a music show, similar to Top of the Pops.

One of the hosts screams: “I’m up on this scaffolding, ‘cos that’s what this shows all about. Shock!”

Very cool. I’m loving the Late News. David, any idea of what the ratings have been like?

Cool, no surprise it happens in a show Hamish is involved in. Progressive chap he is!

It’s great. Overseas networks have been doing this for years.

This is what Sky News needs to be doing. With 20 hours a day coming from the same drab ugly boring set – they really need visual stunts like this to help make the viewing experience better.
