Wimbledon 2012: guide

Seven reveals its schedule for Wimbledon live on Seven & 7TWO across the country.

Wimbledon returns to Seven -and 7TWO- for the second time, from Monday June 25th.

Seven’s broadcast will be hosted by Todd Woodbridge with commentary from John Newcombe, Rennae Stubbs, Sam Smith and Geoff Masters.

In addition, there will be commentary via the host broadcaster BBC, with John McEnroe, Pat Cash, Bjorn Borg, Lindsay Davenport and Boris Becker.

During the first week the live broadcast kicks off at 8.30pm (AEST) on 7TWO before switching to Seven from around 11pm. From Day 8 to Day 11 the coverage begins at 10pm on 7TWO before again moving to Seven at about 11pm.

All singles and doubles finals, as well as the singles’ semi-finals, will also be exclusively live on Seven, and 7TWO in some states.

Seven’s coverage is live across the country for almost all of the tournament which, HD questions notwithstanding, is a good use of multichannels. The women’s final appears to be half an hour delays in Perth and Adelaide, but otherwise the coverage looks identical.

Seven’s Head of Sport, Saul Shtein, said, “After a wonderful tournament last year, once again tennis fans will see the best two matches live each day on 7TWO or Channel 7 completely free. We’ll also keep viewers up to date with all the results and happenings around the courts.”

On Sunday June 24 in the lead-up to the tournament Seven will also be airing:

A 2011 Wimbledon Preview outlining the form of this year’s players.

  1. Loving the Fox Sports coverage. Replays in full during the day so that I can catch up on my favourite player. Wimbledon- my favourite GS of the year.

  2. @ bill, Fox Sports have coverage as well, this year and last year has been the best coverage of Wimbledon we ever had. Seven did a great job last year, sticking with live tennis and keeping updated around the different courts. The improvements showed in this year’s AO coverage as well.

  3. To anyone who wishes to complain about sport not being shown in HD: Go out and buy an HD capable TV for the thousands of Australian families that don’t have one, then they too can enjoy the tennis with a couple of extra pixels. Then, and only then, may you resume your complaints.

    1. ACMA released info today on TV set sales. 80% have made the switch. The rest now have about 18 months to make the move. Set top boxes are about $40 and upwards. I think their complaint is fair.

  4. Absolute disaster for anyone who actually cares about quality, thankfully Fox have the French and US opens.
Australian FTA TV, where it’s still 1999

  5. Great to have Wimbledon and tour de france on at the same time. Can pick which one is more interesting. Almost had a night with the Euros on as well but the tennis is in a rest day. With the Olympics coming up when will I get some sleep!

  6. i am happy that Seven, along with 7Two, are showing Wimbledon live. This is how all major sports should be shown (hint hint – Nine aka French Open).

  7. @Mr J. Getting the French and US Opens on free to air would be epic! even if all they showed was Quarterfinals onwards would be better then nothing….Also being Sam Stosur’s best slams would make sense

  8. It’s certainly is a good use of multichannels. My only gripe is having to change channels later – I wish it just stayed on the one channel. But that won’t happen until later in the evening anyway.

  9. Nothing better than sport in blurovision, i mean standard definition! What year are we in again?

Gotta hand it to Seven, V8 supercars in SD, AFL in SD, Aus Open and Wimbledon in SD.

  10. great, really looking forward to it. hopefully it is successful so a FTA network can pick up more of the french and US. we missed some great matches this past frech, most of which were in primetime and could have been a great opportunity for a network.

  11. Looks like the Womens final is still live, but has half an hour less pre-match coverage – hence the finishing time being the same (with time zones considered)
