Chrissie Swan named as new Can of Worms host

Gold Logie nominee Chrissie Swan is returning to TEN to host the second season of panel show Can of Worms.

Gold Logie nominee Chrissie Swan is returning to TEN to host the second season of panel show Can of Worms.

Swan, who won a legion of fans on Big Brother and later The Circle, replaces co-creator Ian ‘Dicko’ Dickson who quit as host late last year. The announcement sees her return to TEN after taking time out to focus on family. But she had always hinted she would be happy to return to television.

“I am so excited to be joining the conversation on Can Of Worms,” she said.

“In the past year I’ve happily declined many other TV offers, but the opportunity to host a smart, weekly show with all sorts of unexpected moments is the perfect fit for me. I always said I’d do a TV show if it was the right one. This format and the team behind it are too good to be true. Also, the once-a-week filming commitment suits our family perfectly. They won’t even notice I’ve ducked out for a few hours!

“And who could say no to working with Andrew Denton? When I told him I had to discuss this job with my partner before I accepted, he suggested I divorce him if the answer wasn’t positive. He wasn’t going to take no for an answer! So here I am,” she says.

Chief Programming Officer David Mott said: “We have been looking for just the right person to host Can of Worms. Chrissie is the perfect fit for a show that tackles topics that are rarely discussed openly and that will get the nation talking.

“This year, Can of Worms will push the boundaries even further. It will discuss ever more robust topics and engage in deeper conversations with a view to evoking the honest truth from Australians. It’s a show not to be missed.”

Co-Executive Producers, Andrew Denton and Anita Jacoby from Zapruder’s other films, said: “Audiences love Chrisse because they know that, with her, they are getting a real person. We think she is the perfect choice to take Can of Worms further into uncharted territory and we can’t wait to get started.”

This season celebrity guests will be quizzed on such topics as “Is sex more important to men or women?”, “Is it ever OK to hit another person?”, “Is 13 too young to be a model?” The revamp of the show will also see the co-host role, previously performed by Meshel Laurie, disappear.

Can of Worms is produced in association with Watercooler Media.

It returns in August.

  1. Love the Chrissy as well….. a foot note Collette Mann has had her day in the spot light & isn’t funny anymore. Let a new talent take on The Circle as Collette doesn’t cut the mustard like she did in the ole days. Sorry if the truth hurts

  2. Great host I was one of a few who thought that dicko was a good host but having Christie as the host is much better she proved she could handle anything when she told Ben off in BB so she will be great for the show will defiantly be watching the next series

  3. And Australia let’s out a joyful sigh of relief that it wasn’t Paul Henry!!! This is fantastic news! Chrissie is one the country’s best talents and perfect for this role!

  4. Excellent choice. Chrissie is great at anything she does, but this is a great format for her. It will be good to see her back in primetime too.

  5. It’s a shame that Meshel Laurie won’t be on Can Of Worms anymore, but at least she’s been getting a lot of screen time on The Circle. It’s almost as if her and Chrissie have swapped TV roles!

  6. I really like the format of this show.

But Dicko did nothing to help the show and good on him for doing the right thing and standing down.

So glad the format is getting another chance by TEN.
Would loved Denton to be hosting it…but Chrissie is worth a chance.

But it has to work this time you would think!
