Final season for The Big C

One of TV’s most underrated shows The Big C has been confirmed for a fourth, but final season.

The dramedy starring Laura Linney as a woman with terminal cancer, will change formats for the final season, moving from 10×30 eps in Season Three to 4×60 in Season Four.

“From its inception, the show has been unique, and we’ve found a creative way to bring conclusion to Cathy’s story,” Showtime entertainment chief David Nevins said.

Although Linney’s performance attracted much critical attention, the series has never been a big hit in the US and even less so in Australia.

Gem is yet to screen the third season.

TV1 is also set to screen S1 from August 24.

  1. This show is a breath of fresh air…Laura is amazing and the show should have been far far more popular. I bought the 1st 2 seasons and won’t bother watching this show on Gem as it’s on too late. I look forward to purchasing season 3 & 4 when released….

  2. Really good show, how Laura Linney gets shunned for big awards is absolute beyond me, she has been great. Season 3 was a little weaker than the first two but I imagine this little final season could be rapt up nicely instead of dragging on.

  3. I echo every comment here – it’s underrated and deserves better numbers, sad to see it end but 4 seasons is prob about right, hope Nine play it right after the olympics.

  4. I really just hope that Gem airs Season 3 right after the Olympiocs. Their delay for airing this season is a big joke! Season 3 have finished up in the US, and GEM could have aired the season before the Olympics!

The first two seasons were suberb. And i’ve avoided all internet sites regarding the third season just to avoid any spoilers!

Nine could advertise shows for Gem during the Olympics (The Big C, Weeds, etc) for a change, instead of just airing ads for Underbelly, House Husbands and Howzaaaaaaat,

  5. Hands down the best show there has been in years. I must know what happens after the cliffhanger we were left with at the season 2 finale. Chan 9 better show this on GEM or they’ll get a big F from me.

  6. Why Showtime sell quality shows like The Big C and Nurse Jackie to Gem/Eleven is beyond me. They don’t know what to do with them and they don’t get the audience they deserve.

I’d prefer if they were on Foxtel and broadcast without ads, just like they are in the States.
