MasterChef 2012: It’s Andy vs Audra vs Julia

Andy, Audra & Julia will battle it out in the MasterChef finale after Mindy was sent home in a shock elimination.

Andy Allen, Audra Morrice and Julia Taylor will battle it out in the MasterChef Australia finale 2012.

This evening’s challenge gave the final four contestants the chance to cook their signature dish alongside one of Australia’s best chefs.

But Mindy was a shock elimination in the penultimate challenge that required contestants to serve up a dish worthy of ‘3 hats’, but her fish was undercooked.

As the clock wound down for Mindy, panic rose as her fish looked like it would not be cooked properly in time. Despite transferring it from the oven to the pan, the fish remained raw, leaving it inedible.

Mindy had been tipped as favourite to win the contest, and had impressed throughout the series, including winning an Immunity pin.

“I’ve literally been living a dream. I’ve had the time of my life, there’s no other way to describe it,” she said.

Her elimination now sets up the finale as a tight three-way battle.

On Wednesday night one will be annointed as the 2012 champ winning a publishing deal and $100,000 in a 2.5hr finale.

  1. Would have preferred Amina to have been one of the final three, but it wasn’t to be. Hope Andy wins, though I like Julia as well, she has battled so hard all the way through. Audra does not deserve to be there.

  2. I think Julia will be the winner of tonight’s Masterchef as one paper the other day had printed how Kylie will be doing pop up restaurants in Tassie with the two boys and Sydney with Audra and Mindy which leaves Julia the obvious winner!!!! What do you think???

  3. @fairdinkum, funny observation, but Mindy’s wasn’t supposed to be raw of course, and thus failed to deliver her dish.

Julia’s is more perplexing, it looked like all it was was a few slices of puff pastry cut into triangles with some raspberries scattered around, the old faithful micro-herbs and flowers and some melted ice cream. Must have been some amazing ice cream!

  4. Mindy was defo set to win but based on that dish it was unfortunately the absolutely right decision. She’s have a decent career though coz she’s got the talent. I’m fully in Team Andy for the win.

  5. Did anyone actually use their immunity pins? I’ve only missed a couple of episodes for the entire series, but don’t remember anyone actually using it. Maybe Alice was eliminated when she decided not to use it (?)

  6. it seems rigged to me, how can Audra get through after running out of time when she didn’t even cook anything!! At least Mindy put some effort in and actually cooked. No way should Audra – the professional caterer – should have even been allowed in and on that note Julia also earns money for cooking so really Andy is the only fare winner

  7. i think they should have let Mindy through even though her fish was undercooked, judges said the rest of it tasted superb & it didnt look really raw. Julia’s dish looked like a dogs breakfast, you could see the ice cream was melted by the time they were eating it, judges said it tasted great but who cares if the presentation is so off? 6 weeks ago i would have picked Amenia to win, hoping to see Audra win but my head says Andy, i just think he’s boring as a person though.

  8. Andy doesn’t have any competition, if he loses it will be because of what he did. I have only been watching for the last week or so and he is a talented kid. He will be crowned MasterChef and He will go on to be a very successful chef. Go Andy!!!

  9. I’m so bummed that Mindy was eliminated. I pegged her as a finalist ever since that French challenge that put her into the top 24. She has been one of the only consistent performers and her dish was more substantial than what both Audra (even though I like her) and Julia (whose prowess outside of sweets is questionable).

  10. Would be surprised if Andy didn’t win, he’s blitzed it this week and has improved so much this past month… but it all comes down to the final dishes, and dessert isn’t his strength.
