Renewed: The Newsroom

By David Knox on July 3, 2012 / Filed Under Pay TV 2

Aaron Sorkin’s new drama The Newsroom has been renewed for a second season by HBO.

The drama about the inner workings of a cable news network stars Jeff Daniels, Sam Waterston, Emily Mortimer, Alison Pill and Jane Fonda premiered to 2.1 million viewers, the third-highest premiere for HBO behind only Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones.

Sorkin, who also wrote The West Wing, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and The Social Network has previously said of the series, “This is meant to be an idealistic, romantic, swashbuckling, sometimes comedic but very optimistic, upward-looking look at a group of people who are often looked at cynically.”

The series is due to air in Australia on soon-to-be-launched drama channel SoHo.

ive worked in a newsroom for 20 years… excellent television even if it is a little artistic licence being used…they types of personalities are pretty much spot on…. apart from the Will hero in ep 7

Wow after just 2 eps, that’s surprising. But the first ep was brilliant, i loved it. Fascinating how they use real life news stories
