Steven Tyler quits American Idol -is JLo next?

Aerosmith's Steven Tyler has quit as a judge of American Idol after two seasons -now attention turns to Jennifer Lopez.

Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler has quit as a judge of American Idol after two seasons.

In a statement he said, “After some long…hard…thoughts…I’ve decided it’s time for me to let go of my mistress American Idol before she boils my rabbit. I strayed from my first love, Aerosmith, and I’m back — but instead of begging on my hands and knees, I’ve got two fists in the air and I’m kicking the door open with my band.”

Tyler arrived as a judge for the singing competition show for the 10th season, along with fellow new judge Jennifer Lopez.

Meanwhile FOX sources tell Deadline of JLo’s current negotiations about a possible return: “It’s complicated and fluid. It might get resolved very quickly or may drag on for another few weeks. All the usual reasons; money, schedules, desire to continue, and overall makeup of the judges panel.”

This morning on NBC’s Today show, Lopez sure sounded like she was quitting Idol, saying “I am thinking it’s time for me to go and do other things I love to do.”

Forbes magazine recently placed her #1 on its celebrity money-makers, pinpointing her earnings at $52 million.

FOX entertainment president Kevin Reilly has promised “some creative tweaking” heading into next season after the show’s ratings “dropped more than anticipated” this cycle as “space got crowded”.

  1. JLo has also confirmed she’s leaving – she confirmed on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show.

  2. No!!! Steven was such an amazing judge! I think his comment after Scotty McCreery’s (winner of season 10) audition will go down in the history books – “Well hell fire, save matches, f@#$ a duck and see what hatches” – or the comment last season when a world series baseballer asked Steven how Savannah was – “hot humid and happening – just like your daughter”.
