UKTV has bought The Syndicate, which follows the lives of a group of supermarket workers who play the lottery.

The 5×60’ series is written by Kay Mellor (Band of Gold, Playing the Field, Fat Friends, Between the Sheets, Strictly Confidential) and produced by Rollem Productions. It centres around a different character for each episode.

It stars Timothy Spall, Joanna Page, Matthew McNulty, Lorraine Bruce and Matthew Lewis.

A second season has already been approved for ITV.
