Today, ACA update.

Update: Today will not be on air during the Games and A Current Affair will be airing in 20 minute instalments.

Some adjustment to Nine’s schedule during the Olympics.

The entire Today team is in London next week but will not be on air during the Games as there will still be Live overnight coverage ending at 9am each day.

Karl Stefanovic and Cameron Williams will also be part of Nine’s hosts for Games coverage.

Updated: In the evenings Nine News will still air at 6pm and will be followed by an abbreviated version of A Current Affair at 6:30pm. These will run for 20 minutes with Live coverage resuming at 6:50pm.

However on GEM Live coverage will recommence at 6:30pm.

  1. Why does the whole team need to go over then if they are not on air? They have just all come back from Disneyland and now going to London. Not a bad job if you can get it!

  2. Good to see they are putting live coverage as their main priority, but I would much rather suffer through A Current Affair in its full duration than see Mornings continue as per normal.

  3. ACA down to 10 minutes? The bogans will be picketing the gates at Channel None!

But wait, TrailerPark Tonight shows exactly the same material! “Home quick goys, and don’t spare the ute!”

  4. I didn’t bother paying for the sports channels to get the Foxtel coverage so will check out Nine coverage from time to time, and the opening/closing but that’s about it. I guess SkyNews will be up-to-date with the latest news and results anyway.

I assume the other channel will follow suit and most top shows will be in re-runs during the Olympics? Like to catch up on Supernatural and a few other shows 🙂

  5. Interesting David, thanks. But to my mind, a very curious approach from Nine.
As there’s still significant live action from the Games during the Australian breakfast time zone it would be very strange not to focus on that – but I’m surprised Nine haven’t decided to brand the c6am to c9am segment as ‘Today at the Games’ or some such – and perhaps utilise some of the ‘regular’ Nine breakfast presenters to effectively get the best of both worlds. I’m fairly sure that the BBC have taken this approach before in the UK with their (currently top-rating) ‘Breakfast’ show.

As for ‘A Current Affair’ still screening but in 15-minute chunks – I understand that decision even less. With the inevitable mid/end ad breaks it will probably run for more like less than 10minutes. And if there’s serious live action from the Olympics happening simultaneously then surely that would stand a really strong chance of winning higher numbers? Bizarre!
