Weekend bulletins return to WIN Tasmania

Local bulletins will return to WIN News in Tasmania this weekend, having been axed a year ago.

Local bulletins will return to WIN News in Tasmania this weekend, having been axed a year ago.

The Mercury reports bulletins will be headed up by new anchor, Jonathon Kendall, and includes the addition of two journalists in Hobart and one in Launceston.

TV Tonight understands WIN has been hiring local cameramen in readiness for the new bulletins.

Kendall, said, “We are still going to be following national stories.

“But we want to try and make it as local as possible. And try to make it as honest, friendly and accountable as possible.”

After the axing last year, the Senate in Canberra passed a motion that said Tasmanians deserved more than “irrelevant Victorian news” on weekends while rival broadcaster Southern Cross boasted it was the only network producing local news seven days a week.

  1. Ummm @lcd tv…don’t you mean ..why is it level? When the maps of oz I look at Victoria is way lower than WA…just saying…or maybe your iPad wasn’t level?.?

  2. Gees, I remember from the 70s and 80s that WIN Wollongong was able to produce a local weekend News with one cameraman/editor and one journalist, supplemented by Nine News recorded off-air and replayed at 6:15. Was tricky then but much easier now in this digital age.

Southern Cross forgot there is the ABC in Tasmania as well? 🙂

Good to see WIN reinstate the weekend service to Tasmania though. Relaying Victorian news was not a good idea.
