There are four more swimming finals including the women’s 200m breaststroke, men’s 200m backstroke, men’s 200m individual medley and women’s 100m freestyle. The clash between US teammates Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte in the men’s 200m individual medley should be one of the great duels of the Games.

EQUESTRIAN: Dressage

Dressage: Lyndal Oatley, Kristy Oatley, Mary Hanna (Day 1) 
It’s the first day of the dressage competition at Greenwich Park. There will be a lot of interest in the performance of the Australian team after controversy regarding selection of the final three. Also look out for the oldest competitor in London, 71-year-old Japanese rider Hiroshi Hoketsu. He made his Olympic debut in 1964 and is the second oldest Olympian to compete ever, next to Swedish shooter Oscar Swahn, who won silver in the 1920 Olympics in Antwerp.

It’s the first day of events in the velodrome where track cycling features one of the great national rivalries between Great Britain and Australia in London. A medal of any colour in today’s women’s team sprint will make Anna Meares the most decorated female track rider in Olympic history with four. Standing in her way will be arch rival Victoria Pendleton (Great Britain). The men’s sprint team, led by shining star Shane Perkins, are also in the hunt for a medal against the mother country.

There are three more rowing finals in the morning and Australia have a real chance in two of them: our lightweight men’s coxless four are the reigning world champions, while the women’s eight can complete their fairytale qualification for the Games with a medal
