FANGO rides Social TV boom

The battle is on for Social TV apps amongst the commercial networks, with Seven's app enjoying an early lead.

With the battle on for Social TV apps amongst two of the three commercial networks, Yahoo7 has released some date on FANGO.

Nielsen research shows that 60% of Australians watch TV and internet at the same time, and 36% do this daily. 18% of homes have a tablet device and the number is expected to reach 39% by year’s end.

Last week Nine’s Jump-In app joined the race and TEN’s Zeebox is set to launch in September.

Seven’s FANGO now has over 500,000 app downloads and has enjoyed 1.1m check-ins with its audience skewing 64% female and 36% male.

62% of its action is via iPhones, with 33% iPad and 5% Android.

In June there were 134,000 check-ins, 71% of which were during primetime, with 59,699 polls completed, 91,795 trivia questions  answered and over 10,000 badges ‘awarded’ to fans based on their levels of interaction.

FANGO launched as a Seven-only app with shows such as Home and Away, My Kitchen Rules, Packed to the Rafters, Dancing with the Stars and Australia’s Got Talent, but more recently has added some show content for rival networks such as MasterChef, with more on the way.
