Hey Gold Coast, are you ready for The GC?

Gold Coast viewers will get to see what NZ TV thinks of them with buff boys and busty girls and unscripted content on ELEVEN.

If you thought Sutherland Shire was alone in angst about dramality formats, think again.

Tonight Gold Coast viewers will get their chance to see what New Zealand TV thinks of them with The GC premiering on ELEVEN, featuring buff boys and busty girls and unscripted content.

Produced for TV3, this follows the lives of a group of Maoris living on the Gold Coast but attracted negative feedback with Facebook pages calling for it to be cancelled within hours of its broadcast.

After being partially funded by NZ on Air, which reportedly thought it was a documentary series, it was also criticised for its lack of Maori culture, which featured heavily in its funding application.

It starts tonight at 10pm on ELEVEN.

  1. There’s quite a bit of Maori culture, particularly towards the end of the series when one of the characters returns to NZ for the first time since moving to Australia as a toddler
