Gold medals will be won in eight sports on Day 12, with the spotlight also shining on a number of our highest-profile Australian athletes, including Steve Hooker.

This session may include:

Athletics – 7pm*
All eyes at the Olympic Stadium will be on the trio of Aussies in the heats of the men’s 5000m. Four-time Olympian Craig Mottram resumes his battle with the mighty Kenyans and Ethiopians. Joining him will be fellow Victorians Collis Birmingham and David McNeill.

Defending Olympic pole vault champ Steve Hooker has struggled to regain his Beijing form but the Aussie is hoping to bounce back to his best here in London. His toughest competition will be from Renaud Lavillenie of France.

The men’s decathlon gets under way, and there are qualifying rounds in the women’s hammer and the women’s 800m.

Equestrian – 9pm*
The world’s best show jumpers tackle the demanding course at the Greenwich Park Equestrian Centre. Australia’s hopes for a first Olympic medal in this sport at these Games rest with world number one Edwina Tops-Alexander. Julia Hargreaves will also compete for Australia.

Sailing
Australia is in an unbeatable position in the men’s 49ers as the event reaches its final race. Skipper Nathan Outteridge and crew Iain Jensen have amassed so many points over the course of their regatta they can’t be beaten and can look forward to having gold medals hung around their necks.
The Aussie duo of Elise Rechichi and Belinda Stowell are in 9th place in the women’s 470 with three races remaining.
In the women’s Elliott 6m event, the Aussie trio of Olivia Price, Nina Curtis and Lucinda Whitty have performed outstandingly and will compete in the quarter-final phase of their match-race competition.

Canoeing – Sprint
Four gold medals will be decided: three in kayak events and one in a canoe event.
The day opens with the K1 1000m sprint. Murray Stewart has not reached the final but will compete in the B Final.
Australia’s medal hopes rest with Beijing gold medallist Ken Wallace and Dave Smith in the final of the men’s K2 1000m.
