The Shire cast member charged

A cast member of The Shire has been charged following an alleged homophobic attack in Surry Hills on Thursday night.

A cast member of The Shire has been charged following an alleged homophobic attack in Surry Hills on Thursday night that also involved two other cast members.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports Daniel ”Folkesy” Folkes, 24, was arrested shortly before midnight after allegedly urinating on a man while the two other cast members, aged 27 and 28, abused him with homophobic insults.

Police claim the three men began attacking a man who was sitting alone on steps near the corner of Riley Street and Goulbourn Street.

”The trio fled but were located a short time later by police on the corner of Oxford Street and Riley Street,” a police spokeswoman said. ”The three men were then issued a move-on notice. However two of them allegedly continued to argue with police and didn’t comply.”

Folkes appears in the TEN series as a mate of Matt Spock, boyfriend of Kerry.

This follows recent headlines involving The Shire‘s Vernesa Toroman and Sophie Kalantzis, involved in a “catfight” at Rhodes shopping centre last week. Footage of the two brawling in the street with two other women was broadcast on A Current Affair.
