Foxtel will screen the Starz drama Magic City, which features (a sometimes topless) Jessica Marais as the sultry wife of a Miami Beach mob boss.

The first season received mixed reviews however production is underway on season two which will premiere in 2013.

The story begins on New Year’s Eve 1959. As Ike Evans (Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Grey’s Anatomy) rings in the New Year at his luxurious Miramar Playa Hotel, Havana falls to Castro’s rebels. It’s a turbulent time in Miami but it’s the place to be. The Kennedys, the mob and the CIA all hold court here. Of course, everything comes at a price. To finance his dream, Ike sold his soul to mob boss Ben “The Butcher” Diamond (Danny Huston, X-Men Origins, The Proposition). Ike’s wife Vera (Olga Kurylenko, Quantum of Solace), a former showgirl, and his three kids think he’s an honourable man but he can’t break his pact with the devil. As Ike’s world threatents to implode, he fights for his family and the Miramar Playa.

Former Packed to the Rafters star Marais plays Diamond’s wife Lily – a character Magic City’s producers describe as “pure sex” and “trouble”.

Magic City’s writer, executive producer and creator Mitch Glazer (The Recruit, Great Expectations) was born and raised amid the Miami Beach hotel scene. His wife Kelly Lynch appears in the series as Meg Bannock, the sister of Ike’s deceased first wife.

Wednesday 9.30pm November 14th on SoHo.

  1. I watched it. It’s a bit of a slow burn, but it’s interesting and i’ll check out season two. The show looks amazing though, the sets, costumes ect. A+ for production design.

It does suffer from too much nudity and sex. Although god damn Jessica Marais is hot. I’m not a prude but yeah some times it seems quite unnecessary.

Apparently these shows have a certain percentage who only watch for the nudity and sex. Which is more than those who’ll turn off due to it. Personally I don’t get why people don’t just watch porn.

I’m not a prude, I just sometimes wish shows would move forward with the story.
