All star guest cast on Rake

ABC1's Rake throws down the gauntlet with a knockout cast: Garry McDonald, Don Hany, Jack Thompson and more.

Wow, ABC1’s Rake throws down the gauntlet with a knockout cast tomorrow night: Garry McDonald, Don Hany, Jack Thompson, Deborah Kennedy, on top of Richard Roxburgh, Damien Garvey, Matt Day, Danielle Cormack, Russell Dykstra. Truly impressive.

Cleaver’s (Richard Roxburgh) affair with the Premier proves costly when her husband, A-G Cal McGregor (Damien Garvey) begins a campaign of harassment against him. David Potter (Matt Day) sues him for defamation, and, after the clown punch-up at Max’s birthday party, he’s persona non grata to Barney (Russell Dykstra) as well.

Meanwhile, Barney and Scarlet (Danielle Cormack) are having counselling. He’s also busy defending Lawrence Fenton (Garry McDonald) – charged with fraud for posing as a board member around town in a campaign aimed against the corporate debasement of the English language.

Cleaver, meanwhile, is defending Damien Trengrove (Don Hany), who’s accused of stealing two million dollars from a children’s leukemia foundation run by his wife.

Cleaver arrives at ex-wife Wendy’s (Caroline Brazier) as her book group discusses A Thousand Lies I Have Told by a new author, JM Doolan, and takes special notice of newly-divorced neighbour Sally (Katrina Hobbs). But both neighbour Sally and author JM Doolan have surprises in store for him.

Against his better judgement, Barney brings Cleaver in on the Lawrence Fenton case when Lawrence gatecrashes a global security conference being held by Cal McGregor for the British Home Secretary. David Potter uses the breach of security to embarrass the A-G, who then charges Lawrence with terrorism.

Cleaver is now defending an innocent ex-school teacher whom Cal is determined to prosecute, and a slimy corporate thief who Cal wants to set free.

8:30pm Thursday ABC1.
