Foxtel joins the second-screen wave

Foxtel has paired up with interactive media provider iPowow for its first dip into second-screen engagement during a broadcast.

Project Runway Australia viewers will be able to share their feelings on contestant designs and the judge’s opinion when Season 4 launches in early October.

iPowow, which been used by both Nine and the ABC, is able to show real-time mass results on screen during a broadcast, in much the same way as a “worm” has displayed studio audience voting.

Viewers can participate on Facebook by hitting the “like” on either the Project Runway Australia or Arena Facebook page and then click the app icon. It can be accessed through Facebook on computer, mobile or tablet.

Ross Crowley, Foxtel Director of Programming and Channels said, “Project Runway Australia is a fantastic program for launching our first live audience interaction app. We’re excited to see what viewers think of the drama within the show, the contestant’s designs, and the judge’s opinions as they unfold onscreen.

“Watching TV now goes beyond the one screen and audiences want to talk with each other about shows in real time across many devices. We plan to meet growing demand for second screen experiences and provide our customers with new and exciting ways to interact with their favourite programs.”

Taras Didyk, Executive Producer at iPowow said, “This is the first time iPowow’s real time Facebook platform will be launched in Australia. We are very excited that it’s with Arena on their local production of Project Runway.”

The Project Runway Australia Season 4 premieres on Monday October 8 at 8.30pm.
