MasterChef hits 1million Facebook fans

MasterChef's digital popularity sends some much-needed love to Network TEN.

Some good news for TEN…

The network is boasting that MasterChef Australia has become the first Australian light entertainment program to reach one million Facebook “likes.”

www.facebook.com/MasterChefAustralia was established at the start of the first season in April 2009, and has risen 60% in the past 12 months. MasterChef has also chalked up nearly 15 million video views and over 33.3 million page views at masterchef.com.au. Its Twitter account also grew by over 30% this year, and currently has over 60,000 followers.

The show airs in Australia and overseas territories, which presumably accounts for some of the fervent food love. Nevertheless, it’s an achievement for a show many expected to fall at the first hurdle.

TEN Head of Digital Media, Vincent Dempsey, said: “Masterchef Australia’s digital offering continues to grow year on year, both on the website and across social media. Fans are engaging in huge numbers both during and after the show using social media, and we are delighted to join a very exclusive club of Australian TV shows with more than one million Facebook fans.”

Shine Australia Executive Producer, Margie Bashfield, said: “We are delighted and proud to have hit a million fans on Facebook. As we move into series five and beyond it is wonderful to see how much love and goodwill there is for the brand in Australia and around the world.”

Applications for Series Five are now open at www.masterchef.com.au/applications.htm
