  1. There’s no excuse to hold up shows unless the network simply has something better currently being shown. Ronnie is right re the global conversation. My parents expected to wait six months or more for shows but current audiences won’t. They go to pirate or if like me, to DVD from overseas.

I very much doubt by the way that House Husbands will wind up a significant challenger for Downtown. Not unless the content is significantly better than the first ep.

  2. @ Gonzo But can Seven afford to wait for Downton if Nine wins Sunday night for the rest of the year with House Husbands? I don’t know what the equation is – I’m just speculating – I’m sure some people know what Sunday night 830 actually translates into $$$ wise.

  3. Ronnie, FTA’s can afford to wait. Downton with 7 is a prime example and they’re likely better off scheduling as such.

Pay on the other hand cannot afford to wait. Why pay for something when all the pirates are discussing the show weeks, sometimes months ahead of what you’ve seen and you’re paying for a full subscription to get the drama and sport channels!!

  4. Well put Ronnie..however there is something to be said for internet watching when you’ve missed the start of a great series.I watched about 7 years of Mad Men in a couple of weeks last year..was great..like a marathon tv festival.

  5. Thank you Foxtel. When you have a primary relationship with your audience this decision is a no brainer. Certain FTAs still don’t get that it is not acceptable to expect us to wait for new episodes of highly anticipated series. We want to participate in the global conversation when something is happening in popular culture when it is happening.
