The Voice (US) adds twists -are we next?

Format changes are coming to the US version of The Voice -will we see them in Australia?

Strictly speaking, The Voice doesn’t need any new twists yet. It could arguably just run next year with new faces and do just fine.

But the US version has tweaked its format and so the guessing game is on as to whether Shine and Nine will add them to our second season….

In the battle round, the US coaches will now have the opportunity to steal a contestant from another team if he or she loses the battle round.

Additionally, a new round, called the “knockout” will take place before the live shows to cut all the teams down from 10 contestants to five.

Meanwhile it looks like Keith Urban is closer to becoming an American Idol judge, which could impact on his availability to return to The Voice. FOX is expected to unveil the new four-person judging panel this week.

Not having Urban would be a huge loss to the show.

  1. I used to enjoy Don’t Forget the Lyrics with Wayne Brady as host. It was more the ‘streetwise’ singers with a tinge of ‘come on down’ feel about… I note the new season of The Voice auditions include professional singers… I didn’t think that was meant to be the premise of the show, rather to pluck a novice and mould them…

  2. I can’t understand why this type of local show needs overseas judges. The cultural cringe is not dead. And no one has yet to answer why Brian Macfadden and the (third one on the left) Spice Girl are still able to get work permits here. I know Kyle has a lot of power, but isn’t his bromance over? (I won’t even mention our Delta). It’s getting to the embarrassing stage now. No one has mentioned that the main problem with “Everbody Dance Now” (or whatever it was called) was the overseas ‘celebrity mentors’. Or was it part of their contract that they couldn’t be mentioned as a reason for lousy ratings?

  3. @nicks. The singers on X Factor are a mix of good and bad. However unlike the Voice, X Factor seem to put people through on sentiment, rather than singing ability. For example Bella forgot the words to her songs, not once but twice and got to go to home visits, while others who were good missed out.

  4. Wow..losing Urban sure would be a blow..but I bet even if he got American Idol,The Voice would try almost anything to accommodate him, unless contract precluded that.Think what The Voice needs to do more than anything is get better singers.Never watch X Factor..so can I ask..does it have as good or better singing talent than The Voice?
