Airdate: Hunted

Next month SBS scoops the premiere of the new UK series Hunted, set in the world of international espionage.

Melissa George stars as the fearless spy Sam, a hunter who now finds herself hunted by a ruthless hidden enemy tangled in an intricate web of suspense and paranoia

Written and created by Frank Spotnitz (The X Files) this eight-part  thriller is and produced by the team behind Spooks.

At the heart of the drama is Sam, a highly skilled operative for an elite private intelligence firm who survives an attempt on her life that may have been orchestrated by members of her own team. Once she returns to the firm, she performs her secretive duties without knowing who to trust and who wants her dead.

Adam Rayner (Hawthorne, Mistresses) plays Sam’s colleague at the firm and love interest. The dedicated and complex members of the firm operate in the shadows, and regularly confront life and death situations on secret missions unaware of whom or what they are fighting for.

Hunted is a smart and complex contemporary story of a spy with a bull’s eye on her back, a human target unable to trust anyone at any time, even the man she loves. Hunted will have audiences guessing to the very end as the plot twists and turns with Sam as she literally runs for her life.

Episode One: Mort

Sam Hunter, an operative for the elite private intelligence and security firm Byzantium, is finishing a mission in Tangier when an attempt on her life leaves her critically injured. Not knowing who tried to kill her, she disappears to a remote location to recover, regroup and retrain.

Returning to work unannounced nearly a year later, Sam surprises her co-workers, who are suspicious about her disappearance, especially Aidan Marsh (Rayner), her secret lover. Her bosses, Rupert Keel played by Stephen Dillane (Game of Thrones) and Deacon Crane played by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Lost), retain doubts about her, but need their best agent for an important new assignment. The team devises a plan to have Sam infiltrate a family headed by powerful millionaire Jack Turner, a man with a criminal past whose ambitions are at odds with Byzantium’s secret client.

If Melissa is as tough as Gina Carano in Haywire, I might watch. Not yet convinced Melissa can pull it off but looking forward to ep 1.

@MJL – it’s one Cinemax in the US but I didn’t know there would be a difference. It will be interesting to to see which way they go, if we can tell the difference.

I wonder if they’ll get the more censored BBC version where the sex scenes aren’t as raunchy as what they show on HBO. Read an article about it

I want this to be good but I think it is going to be crap. This has cliché and ham written all over it.
