The New Normal, Modern Family, Homeland: update

TEN has made some changes to its Sunday line-up this weekend and next.

TEN has made some changes to its Sunday line-up this weekend.

The New Normal is out -but will return a week later- and is replaced by another new episode of Modern Family.

That means this Sunday there are two first-run Modern Family eps.

A week later, November 11, The New Normal resumes at 8pm and is followed by a double episode of Homeland: “Q & A” and ” “A Gettysburg Address.”

So 10 are going to hold off 4 eps of homeland until feb? Big Mistake, Do you really think people who are already watching it on 10, and not via other means, are going to wait 2-3 months for the conclusion of S2 of homeland? And what are they going to show instead, in it’s place? Repeats of Law and Order and other US shows, and that they will rate as good as a new episode of Homeland?

  2. I think New Normal has really hit its straps now that the characters are established. The Halloween episode was hysterical.

Ten might have been better pairing Modern Family with New Girl which was a proven performer on Sunday nights earlier this year.

  3. This will TEN a chance to see the difference with a strong lead in for “Homeland” . As much as I hate to say it, “New Normal” should not be there. The sunday night comedy audience is too conservative for this show and it needs a late (but not too late)timeslot.

  4. Yes, The Modern Family Halloween episode is on the week before Halloween in the US. I guess it rates too highly to be shown while everyone is out on Halloween.

Ten has done similar stuff before. They held of 4 episodes of NCIS last season so they would have stuff for September and be able to show the Deering arc in on block.

If Ten had definitely decided to screen the episodes before Christmas they would have started with a double episode. That would have got the most ratings, helped build the audience for the show and given people a good 2 hour block of TV to watch.

With Homeland only delivering 600k live views and Vegas doing so badly it looks like they have made a decision.

  6. Given that Ten usually shows a repeat when it double episodes a shows (NCIS, L&O: SVU, Modern Family especially), are people even going to know that the second episode is a new episode of Homeland next weekend?

  7. Curious move as there are new episodes of New Normal available. Is it just so the Modern Family Halloween airs vaguely close to Halloween?

Maybe the second Homeland epsiode “A Gettysburg Address” is MA rated and needs to air after 9pm? I’m glad we are catching up.

  8. Usually, I’m not a fan of double-eps either but I can handle two hours of Homeland as it will mean that we’ll be less than a week behind the US (just).

Pertinax, I said at the start that I thought that Ten would play Homeland through to the end, since to do anything else would be silly and Ten never makes silly programming decisions. Thought that they might’ve kept the double-ep until the end and gone out with a bang but that would have been on the 23rd of December so, a bit late. It would be good if they were permitted to show the finale 12 hours before the US but then those Aussies will upload it to torrent sites and spoil the fun for everybody.

  9. why would you do a double ep now, when the season when 3 eps have already been played so far on 10? it would make more sense at the very beginning or end of a season. they did it in season 1 too, found it very strange. I hope it’s just to catch up and they haven’t taken Vegas off completely. especially when that’s got a full season pickup.

  10. Double ep Homeland brings us to same week as the US. You’re the same person who whinge’s when it’s too far behind and then you whinge when it’s brought up to date

  11. If you guys hate watching double episodes then just record the second episode and watch it some other time.

Ten are doing this to screen an extra episode of the higher rating shows and catch up a week with the US. They are waiting till House Husband and the ABC TVMs finish before doubling up Homeland. This would seem to make it less likely that they are going to hold the end of Homeland over till 2013 now.

Channel 10 are publicly sticking to their approach of “Fast Tracking” despite no evidence of results so far. They have no choice.

Channel 7 are publicly sticking their approach of holding on to top rating shows and programming them to maximum effect in 2013, despite having been forced to bring Bones and Castle forwards to not particularly impressive ratings.

  12. @J Bar, you and me both!
I hate the way that they’re usually advertised as a “Movie Length Special” too. They’re not, they’re two episodes lumped together!
