TV Week changes Logie voting

No more 'Race For Gold' until the last minute -now it's one vote, one person.

TV Week has removed the Race For Gold phase of voting for the Gold Logie Award winner, in a bid to stop multiple voting.

After consulting with readers it has brought the Gold into line with its other voting categories, axing the late-voting stage which traditionally remained open until the big night.

Now viewers will be able to vote once only for each category, including the Gold.

The move is likely to diminish the power of social media bloc votes, without abolishing it altogether. There were many raised eyebrows after Hamish Blake won the Gold, with his Facebook fans outnumbering his other Gold Logie nominees.

Voting is free, and opens on Monday, November 26, 2012 and will run until Sunday, February 10, 2013.

We are yet to hear of any other changes for TV’s night of night, now being organised as part of Bauer Media Group (formerly ACP Magazines).

  1. Love the Logies and a Good decision has been made. With all the social media out there now something had to be done. After Hamish won it was a true indication that the system was broke.

  2. This rort has been happening for a while now and I agree with par3182 that Stefanovic’s win should have been the final straw. However, that was mostly enabled via network campaigning which appears to be acceptable. Hamish Blake clearly stepped over an invisible line when he engaged directly with his fans and used his personal popularity to win a popularity contest (oh noes).

The logies have been a limp joke for some time now and I have no interest in who is liked the best by people who think that TV Week is worth paying for or who live their life thru FB.

  3. I raised this issue sometime back, and I bet those who got in early are now pleased they did, and its a shame that more of the multiple voting rorts did not get more attention than they did at the time….Especially for those of us who are not in the TV entertainment inner circle, and I do thank David for his continual efforts.

A bit more info on how the entire current rating system works etc. would be appreciated, especially now, as I think I’ve read that they are talking about the impact and logging of PVR functions etc.

I wish all the networks were as intrested in us their viewers, such as ensuring reliable, On Time screening, and exactly as per the scheduled programme, as they are with the nightly rating results.

  4. The best and most cost effective way to win the Gold Logie is to out source your voting to India. The network that has the biggest budget behind one of their stars….wins

  5. i am happy with this move. Although the Race for Gold has been only going for a few years now, i found every part of it as a farce, allowing Networks to vote for their own star multiple times.

And doesn’t the voting period seems too long? 10 weeks to vote? Until last eyar, wasn’t the voting proces only for half that time?

  6. I refuse to watch the Logies. And I quite enjoy award shows scuh as the emmys and oscars. I feel like the Logies focus on popularity of shows and actors. (I know they have awards for “best” so and so, but the big ones are not based on talent rather than popularity IMO)
