ABC dominates Screen Music Awards 2012

The Slap, Mabo, Giggle & Hoot were all winners at the 2012 Screen Music Awards on Monday night.

ABC TV shows were the big winners at the 2012 Screen Music Awards last night in Melbourne with The Slap, Mabo, Giggle & Hoot amongst the TV category winners.

Nine’s Underbelly: Razor and Gasp! also picked up awards.

Hosted by Chris Taylor and Andrew Hansen at Melbourne’s BMW EDGE, the evening was staged jointly by APRA and the Australian Guild of Screen Composers.

Presenters included Jack Thompson, Melanie Vallejo, Tom Wren, Ian Darling, Don Batte, Diana Glenn, Lachy Hulme, Christopher Gordon, Peter Luscombe, Tony Briggs and Cezary Skubiszewski with performances by Kira Puru and Electric Empire and a Live ensemble conducted by Paul Grabowsky.

Composer Antony Partos (pictured) was recognised in three categories, winning Best Television Theme for The Slap, Best Music for a Mini-Series or Telemovie for Mabo and and Best Soundtrack Album for The Slap along with co-writers Michael Lira, Jono Ma and Irine Vela.

Partos is currently a composer for Redfern Now.

Feature Film Score of the Year was won by Lisa Gerrard for Burning Man.
