November’s Live in the Studio event at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image will look at the HBO drama Girls.

This is the final event for 2012 to be hosted by Triple R’s Jess McGuire with guests Clementine Ford, Sam Cooney, Michaela McGuire, Byron Bache and musical offerings by Kikuyu.

Previewing earlier this year Girls met TV screens and media with blast. Acclaim and condemnation were voiced, but either way, people were watching and talking about it – the hype you just can’t buy followed. Nominated for four Primetime Emmy Awards® including Outstanding Directing and Writing for a Comedy Series, Girls has become a hit. Set in New York, Girls follows the life and times of four young woman and a couple of young men, all while they navigate their way post college in the world of pay checks, rent, sex, the changing boundaries of friendship and becoming financially independent / cut off from their parents.

“It’s “Sex and the City” in a charcoal gray Salvation Army overcoat.” – Frank Bruni, New York Times

On the back of her highly applauded film Tiny Furniture which won the Independent Vision Award at the Sarasota Film Festival and the Jury Award at SXSW, Lena Dunham continues from strength to autobiographical strength with her work. And within the last week, has signed a $3.5million book deal for her collection of essays entitled “Not That Kind of Girl: A Young Woman Tells You What She’s Learned”. All at the age of 26, she is quickly becoming “a voice of a generation” (Frank Bruni, New York Times)

There is a lot of talk – both on and off the screen – and it’s time to weigh in on the Girls discussion. Join a panel of guests including cultural commentator Clementine Ford, editor and publisher of The Lifted Brow Sam Cooney, co-curator and host of Women of Letters Michaela McGuire and freelance writer Byron Bache as they take a look at the potential ‘voice of a generation’ being spoken by television’s newest group of ‘it’ Girls. Hosted by Jess McGuire from Triple R.
