Airdate: This is England ’88

By David Knox on November 19, 2012 / Filed Under Programming 2

Next week SBS screens This is England ’88, the follow up to This is England ‘86 by renowned filmmaker Shane Meadows.

The three-part series reunited the original cast from This is England.

Co-written by Meadows and Jack Thorne (The Scouting Book For Boys, Skins), this is based on Meadows’ own upbringing in the British council house estates of the Thatcher-era.

It’s December 23 and life isn’t looking so festive for some. Lol is struggling to cope with life as a single mother and is haunted by the devastating events which took place 18 months previously.

Smell and Shaun are still together, just. Shaun’s gone all Lothario attending drama college, preparing for the Christmas play with new girl in town, Fay. Woody has a new girlfriend, the lovely Jennifer – but she’s no Lol. Meanwhile, Milky returns from some time away, but not everyone is happy to see him.

Monday, 26 November at 9.30pm on SBS ONE

Fantastic stuff. TIE 86 is wonderful and I was hoping 88 would follow the repeat of 86. If any one hasnt seen the film This Is England. Highly recommended.

I’ll be watching next week :)
