The axe has fallen on new shows in the US, two of which impact on four Aussie actors.

ABC supernatural series 666 Park Avenue which stars Rachael Taylor, Dave Annable, Vanessa Williams and Terry O’Quinn pitched itself as a glossy, spooky soap but wasn’t able to connect with viewers. It has been fast-tracked to Australia by Foxtel.

Last Resort, also from ABC, has been axed. The series about a renegade crew of a US Navy submarine included Daisy Betts, Daniel Lissing (pictured) and Dichen Lachman. It was recently announced by Seven has one of its international highlights for 2013.

Both series will now wrap at 13 episodes.

Meanwhile CBS has called it quits on comedy series Partners from David Kohan and Max Mutchnick (Will and Grace). The series was the only new comedy CBS introduced this season. Starring David Krumholtz and Michael Urie, the bromance comedy looks at lifelong friends and architecture partners who are so very different.

  1. I’m not suprised that 666 got cancelled but if they’d just used more craft in editing, it may have survided another season.

@MuchoTB you have to be kidding about Revolution! that show lacks any understanding of basic science and it is the same storyline over and over again! girl searches for brother, some how bends her moral code and gets into trouble but not so much that miles can’t saves her.
the fact that the creators are held in such high regard, I find it amazing that they could drop the ball so hard that they have fractured their credability with this show.

  2. I’m very sad about ‘Last Resort’ being cancelled as it was the only new series of the “Fall Season” that I really liked.

Pretty inevitable though, as this type of show was only ever going to work on cable tv. The only show of this type to have worked on network tv, in recent memory, was ‘Lost’.

  3. I’m going to miss Hush Puppy! He’s what I enjoy most about ‘Partners’.

I have so many questions for 666 because I don’t quite get the show. I sometimes wish it was a bit more “sexed up”.

  4. @JB: Yes, the pilot was not good, but it improved greatly from episode two, and the cast gelled better. They also began to find a use for Brandon Routh’s character. Like all shows it needs time to develop.

  5. 666 Park Avenue’s pilot was slow and boring, no surprises at all that it was axed. The only good thing about the series was Terry O Quinn

Last Resort is a good show, I’ve seen every episode so far, but the past few have been pretty terrible. I agree with JB, no surprises that it was axed.

Revolution has been performing strongly in the States but the last few weeks has slipped in the demo rating. Here’s hoping it stabilises soon as it’s a great series, would love to see a second season

  6. Love the description of “Partners”…”looks at lifelong friends who are so very different….” Wow! It’s like they’re the original odd couple! *groan*

  7. @tomothyd, are you kidding? The first ep of Partners was absolutely woeful. Not funny at all, no connection between cast, wooden acting, it was embarrassing to watch. Go On is the best new comedy by far.

Last Resort is good, but not spectacular, I gave up after a few eps, was clear it wouldn’t last.

666 Park Avenue was pretty bad so no surprises there.

  8. Nooooooo! I cannot believe they have cancelled Partners, it was the best new comedy for quite some time. It has some laugh out loud moments, and the characters connect really well, you can see they are having fun doing it.
I don’t understand how a show like this gets cancelled, but shows like ‘Til Death’ and ‘According to Jim’ last for many seasons.
I expected 666 to get cancelled, it’s been boring the whole way through.

  9. I guess with Chuck Lorre’s 3 sitcom’s doing so well there is no room on CBS for something new?

As for the others, say the Last Resort pilot, I’d say it would have worked better as a movie, not seen 666 but it’s sitting on MyStar waiting.
