Does the Farmer still want a Wife?

What's the future for Nine's long-running dating show?

Absent from Nine’s 2013 Programming Launch this week was dating series The Farmer Wants a Wife.

Nine renewed all of its other big reality shows (with the exception of Excess Baggage), so what of the future for Farmer, now having had an impressive 8 seasons under its country belt?

Nine has advised TV Tonight it is yet to make a decision on the show’s return.

This year the show shifted its tone, from the aspirational ‘fairytale’ element that had always worked so well to something closer to Beauty and the Geek or Please Marry my Boy. There were speed dates and storytelling techniques that seemed to punctuate shock elements rather than its romanticism. A number of readers commented that they didn’t warm to this season as much as they had in the past.

But the other not insurmountable challenge for the show is simply finding enough single farmers willing to give it a go. Without half a dozen good hearted blokes (and occasionally a female farmer) the show can’t exist.

There is still room for a dating show on TV but maybe Farmer will have to hang up its hat with its roll-call of marriages, engagements and babies it has produced?

Time will tell…

  1. I love the Show Watched every episodes
But I was disappointed In the ending Showing us if they stayed together the ones The Fama’s picked
I think the ending was cut too short
Hope it comes back on in 2013
Hope you show us from this year if the Copples stayed together and What there up to

  2. Shame, as it got a bit lame this year and no blonde ‘bimbo’ is going to do the hard yakka on the farm, I agree. They need to get rid of the glitz and fame seekers and bring on down to earth girls to match up with Farmers. I’m sure the farmers will miss an opportunity to find someone special with no show next year as there has in the past, been some matches made in heaven.

  3. Yeah I lost interest this season- however I don’t mind this show..they should of came back this year with something different- a twist etc or something that stood out as opposed to the other years. I think they’ll place this on hold for the time being but have a feeling it may not be back, as nine has a busy line up for 2013 and may not have room for it….

  4. @dwuuu…lol not work? I was a farmer’s wife and believe me there’s definitely work involved! I’m guessing you mean not work outside the home/farm (well I hope that’s what you mean! 😉

Re the show – I never watched it. So unrealistic, and those city girls would run a mile at the sight of a bit of poop or flyblow….:p
