FOX Sports signs Barclays Premier League to 2016

FOX Sports has signed a new three year agreement to broadcast 380 games of the Barclays Premier League.

FOX Sports has signed a new three year agreement to broadcast the Barclays Premier League.

FOX Sports will broadcast 380 games in HD with no ad breaks through to the end of the 2015/16 season, as well as every Live game via iPhone and iPad.

The new agreement will take FOX Sports to 20 years as the Australian television broadcaster of the Barclays Premier League, having first screened matches in 1997.

FOX Sports CEO, Patrick Delany, said: “It’s been a huge week for football on FOX Sports, with the announcement of two major broadcast deals which are sure to have fans around the country buzzing with excitement at what the next four years holds for them.

“The Barclays Premier League is one of the most popular sporting competitions in the world and FOX Sports subscribers don’t miss a single game. Better still, they can take the games with them and watch any game Live anywhere on their iPhone or iPad via the FOX Sports Barclays Premier League Live App and Foxtel Go.”

“A Foxtel subscription opens up the world to football fans, headlined by every game of the Hyundai A-League, Barclays Premier League and Socceroos on FOX Sports, plus the EUFA Champions League, FA Cup and Major League Soccer on ESPN, and The Africa Cup of Nations on Eurosport. The world’s best competitions are all in one place.”

FOX Sports currently delivers on average 30 hours per week of Live and first-run football coverage including every match of the Hyundai A-League, every match of the Barclays Premier League, every Qantas Socceroos international and World Cup Qualifier, plus the AFC Champions League and weekly magazine programming.

The FOX Sports Barclays Premier League Live App not only offers Livestreaming of all matches but in-game highlights, extended match highlights footage and weekly themed video packages including ‘Goals of the Week’.

FOX Sports football coverage is available in High Definition, with no ad breaks during play for Foxtel sports subscribers.

  1. Starter + Sports + HD and service fee $81 no lock in contract. Best money I’ve ever spent on and don’t need to stay up late to watch EPL on Sunday mornings as I often record whenever my team Chelsea plays and all the great games.

With 6 games live in HD and 4 on “red button” viewers choice, this option is much better than Sky Sports UK which shows only 115 games.

Loving the EPL and in HD and can’t wait for another 3 years of seeing Rooney, RVP, Hazard, Oscar, Sandro and Co.

  2. @Josh777 – erk, I meant $70/month but I wouldn’t pay $50 either. The idea of watching sport on a tiny screen does not appeal at all, and routing the mobile-optimised stream to a larger screen will look horrible.

  3. @ Secret Squirrel – do you have an iPhone? If so, then currently if you are a Foxtel sports subscriber you can watch all EPL games live and for free on your iPhone. And with this new deal, as well as the FOX Sports website on the app (foxsports.com.au/mobile/epl-live-app) it implies that the app will expand to other devices (iPad, Android and Windows phones/tablets). and given the current prices, you would pay $61 a month for the Starter Pack and the Sports Pack, which you can then reduce to $45 once the EPL season is done. In my opinion, what Foxtel and FOX Sports are offering to EPL fans is definitely worth it seems though NFL Game Plan costs 104.99 and NBA Game Pass costs $220.00 a season.

  4. @Josh777 – thanks but I don’t care what the business case is, I’m not paying $70 or more a week no matter what the content or how ridiculous you or Foxtel/Fox Sports think that is.

A couple of years ago I bought a season subscription from Fox Sports UK to watch EPL via the net. Unfortunately there were only 4 games a week and I had no choice about which 4, so it was pot luck whether I got to watch my team or not. I would’ve paid more to watch all of my team’s matches live but the option didn’t exist.

  5. After the value of the new A-league deal was disclosed. I was wonder if you David could you please find out and post how much the new EPL contract is worth for comparison reason

  6. @ Secret Squirrel – In the U.K. they off At The Races (the equivalent of Sky Racing), Eurosport, Eurosport 2, Extreme Sports and ESPN Classic in the Entertainment Extra pack, but these channels don’t offer any of the premium content that are offered by Sky Sports (1, 2, 3, 4) and Sky Sports F1 (Sports Pack – £21); and ESPN (£13).
In the U.S., DirecTV offers ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3D and Pursuit in the basic pack, as well as entertainment channels that offer sport content such as TBS, TNT, USA, etc. However, all other sports channels are in varying packages that vary in price from US$34.99-US$89.99.
So given all this., it isn’t unreasonable to suggest that ESPN should be offered in the Starter pack along with Eurosport, but asking for the FOX Sports channels that offer premium content is just plain rediculous. The overall price of Foxtel needs to be reduced to under $100 a month for all channels with a HD STB, but other than price their packaging is in good shape.

  7. Awesome news

SBS has only 2-3 minute online highlights

Foxtel completely blows them away with exclusive live no -ad broadcasts

The world game is no longer the final word on soccer as foxtel is 24/7 soccer

  8. Shame that less than half of the EPL games are shown live. Still, it’d almost be worth getting Foxtel if this was included in the basic subscription.

  9. Awesome news 😀

Was dreading that the Premier League would be gone like La Liga but thank goodness I am keeping Foxtel now that both the A-League and EPL are retained until the end of the 2015/16 season. Loving my football fix this summer.
