Slimmer Packed to the Rafters for Season 6

Season 6 of Packed to the Rafters will be 12 episodes next year, down from 22.

Seven will produce fewer episodes of Packed to the Rafters for its next season.

Season 6 will be 12 episodes, down from 22 episodes in Season 5.

However Seven is understood to still have 12 episodes unaired from Season 5.

Seven also returns Winners and Losers and launches A Place to Call Home next year, which has 13 episodes.

Seven did not clarify its 2013 plans for Rafters when quizzed by TV Tonight.

  1. It seems like I am one of the very few who never liked this show..

I don’t understand the big deal about it only being renewed for 12 episodes, considering there was already 12 episodes which were unaired?

Wouldn’t that be a smart move by them?

  2. What 12 episodes to go in season 5. I didnt realise it was that many. Thats a disgrace 7. What we will see season 6 at the start of 2014.

I love this show but 7 have just stuffed it big time. Luckily I enjoy winners and losers. But 7 have to work it out.

  3. I love this show. But not what ch7 are doing to it. We need to see what is left of season 5 and I hope they put it on after the tennis. I think it won’t last beyond season 6 which is a shame because its such a great family show.

  4. PRTR jumped the shark at least a year ago. With most of the younger cast members leaving, having run out of storylines for them, and the introduction of a whole lot of new ‘unattractive’ characters, the whole reason for the show has disappeared.

I don’t like any of the newer characters who hold no appeal, so stopped watching ages ago.

  5. I love this show but I personally think the series should come to an end it’s kinda past it’s used by date, they’ve exhausted all avenues regards to storytelling and a few of the original cast members have also left and I don’t know but I don’t have the same feeling from the show that I used to before…Winners & Losers seems to be doing well and I’m really enjoying that atm (:

  6. @ Mr J A fair point, however breaks in Aussie shows hasn’t been the norm. We are used to 22 ep seasons, so stopping and starting mid season even if networks claim a natural break annoys viewers. I notice though the new trend is to make mini series whether they be 2 or 4 hours like Jack Irish or Howzat or a 13 part series like Underbelly, Rush and puberty Blues. So it would seem A Place To Call Home is 7’s first serious foray into a ‘mini’ series like what 2, 9 & 10 hav been doi g for awhile.
The shorter seasons don’t bother me as like S4 of Rush it lead to a tighter storyline.
I would expect viewers who watch fast tracked shows would expect interruptions and tolerate them more understanding that Aussie networks are at the mercy of other countries holidays, sporting events, elections, disasters and any other event bat can delay episodes

  7. slightly off topic, but interesting to note that a lot of the people that say broken seasons lose audiences are the same people that are consistently pro-fasttracking. can’t have it both ways guys.

  8. How hard is it for ch7 to show 22 episodes of the Rafters at the beginning of the year and when thats finished show 22 episodes of Winners and Losers for the rest of the year. Its a win win for both shows and there fans.

  9. i dont see how a 12 episode season is killing the show. the show has always been produced in 10-12 epsiode production blocks, and usually aired in a similar way. i’d say this is just a formality, as there is no way they could air 14 season 4 epispdes and 22 season 5 epsidoes in 1 year, may as well label episodes accordingly. i think short 12 ep seasons are best for serial dramas anyway.

That said 7 could air season 4&5 back to back and the 26 ep run would probably seem like a full season to the non-tvtonight reader anyway. i hope that doesnt happen though.

  10. What is wrong with Channel 7!!!! Why do they purposely kill any program which rates well? All Saints was still rating and they pulled the plug on it! Packed To The Rafters is still pulling in one million plus viewers each week when on air and they started moving it around taking it off putting it on….why??? Hope all your new shows flunk in the ratings….you only have yourselves to blame……

  11. I think the success of this show is also its demise. The show and cast have won multiple logies, its got/had very high viewership, so surely actors pays have risen due to the success.
Channel 7 therefore want to cut costs while still produce the show, so they are treating it with disrespect and are not too fussed if they cancel it as they will use the funding for new productions.
This happened to the US sitcom Perfect Strangers. The actors pay got so high that the show became too expensive to make. The network (ABC) pushed the show to a dead night, hoping for decline in viewership, which happened. They took it off for a while and returned it for the final few episodes on a Saturday night an the ratings were massive. But they cancelled the program anyway.

  12. It seems that Ch 7 have killed this drama, in th sense that stuffing viewers about forces them to switch off.
I know people will say storylines haven’t been as good lately blah blah blah and yes season 4 struggled with the loss of Jessica Marais, but end of 4 & start of 5 (I think as the show was on and off again mid season), I thought it was improving again.
So the question is will season 5 part 2 and season 6 run consecutively? Will it still air in its Tuesday time slot?

  13. I’m sick of Seven screwing with the Rafters, surely by now W&L is established enough to run on another night at 8:30? An now they have another new family show for 2013!

If the Rafters were on in the US/UK I’d just go else where for them!

  14. Why do networks squeeze the orange till its totally dry ??? Series should have ended a year ago, clearly they have never heard of the old saying :”I’d rather leave while Im in love”.?/
