The Carrie Diaries: trailer

Video: AnnaSophia Robb stars as 16 year old Carrie Bradshaw in the Sex and the City prequel.

Here’s the trailer for the Sex and the City prequel, The Carrie Diaries.

Set in 1984 (with just a hint of Ferris Bueller) it stars AnnaSophia Robb as 16 year old Carrie Bradshaw and Freema Agyeman.

It’s 1984, and life isn’t easy for 16-year-old Carrie Bradshaw. Since their mother passed away, Carrie’s younger sister Dorritt is more rebellious than ever, and their father Tom is overwhelmed with the responsibility of suddenly having to care for two teenage girls on his own. Carrie’s friends — sweet, geeky Mouse, snarky Maggie and sensitive Walt — make life bearable, but a suburban life in Connecticut isn’t doing much to take her mind off her troubles. Even the arrival of a sexy new transfer student named Sebastian only reminds Carrie that she spent the whole summer grieving rather than moving on with life.

Airing on FOX8 in January.

  1. I’m actually really looking forward to seeing what The Carrie Diaries has to offer. I’m sure it’s not going to be like what I’ve come to love with Sex and the City, but I think it’ll still be interesting enough. A lot of the girls I work with at DISH think the show will turn out to be a dud though, so I’m hoping to prove them wrong after the series starts up. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for the premiere for that especially since I just upgraded to a DISH Hopper DVR. Now I have 2,000 hours of entertainment I can store, so I’ll have to problem recording and watching this new series and all of my other favorite’s back next year without reaching my DVR’s capacity! 🙂

  2. @TVTALK The show is staying relatively faithful to the book rather than the TV show by the sounds of it. And they’re also probably hoping a lot of viewers don’t remember that! I think the fact that the families of the SATC characters were rarely shown or even mentioned will go in their favour in that respect.

I’ll defintely give this show a go, I enjoyed the book and, of course, SATC so I hope it lives up to expectations.

  3. Anyone else remember the “A Vogue Idea” ep of SATC from 2002 when Carrie offered a long explanation about how her father had abandoned her and her mother when she was growing up, that she never saw him again and then wondered if that was a reason why she has a problem trusting men???

And now this new series has Carrie being brought up by her widowed dad. What the … Um, did the producers do Any research into the character’s history before they began work on the script?

It never fails to astound me that viewers know more about these TV characters than the people who make the series.

  4. I really liked the book this series is based on. Some really well dreawn characters, will be interesting to see if the series lives up to it. I don’t remember an asian or black character in the book, they may have made some amendments to be politically correct.

  5. Will definitely be giving this a go. I love me some tween drama. But if FOX8 keep adding tween series they are going to need a rebrand from a general entertainment channel to a family channel (e.g. FOX Family) seems though they buy most ABC Family (Secret Life, Make It Or Break It, Bunheads, Pretty Little Liars, The Lying Game) and CW series (Gossip Girl, Vampire Diaries, Smallville, Hart of Dixie, and now The Carrie Diaries).
