Anna Coren wins Asian Television Award

CNN's Anna Coren has won the Asian Television Award for Best News Presenter or Anchor.

CNN’s Anna Coren has won the Asian Television Award for Best News Presenter or Anchor for the second year running, winning for her work on World Report .

The 17th Asian Television Awards were presented in Singapore at an event on December 6 attended by 400 industry professionals from across Asia, including channel heads, programming executives, creative talent and on-screen personalities. Anna Coren was unable to attend as she is currently working from CNN’s Beijing bureau. She was on a story in central China when she heard about her win.

As of last month Australian-born Anna Coren became an Asia Pacific correspondent for CNN, based out of Hong Kong, allowing her to cover the region as news warrants. She was previously an anchor with CNN for four years across a number of shows from the network’s regional headquarters in Hong Kong.

The new role will showcase her strong on-location and breaking news reporting skills demonstrated during stories including the 2010 Manila bus hostage situation, the 2011 Japan tsunami and most recently her month-long posting to Kabul, Afghanistan, in September this year.

She said she hoped 2013 will have more travel in store for her; in 2012 she has filed stories for CNN from eight countries including Japan, Indonesia, the Philippines, Korea, Thailand, Cambodia, Afghanistan and China.

The Asian Television Awards are organised by Contineo Media and official publication Television Asia Plus. This year (according to the ATA website) there were 1,327 entries representing 14 Asian nations, including nearly 50 new entrants.
