22 year old Melbourne designer Christina Exie has won Project Runway Australia 2012, defeating finalists Leah Da Gloria, Jamie Ashkar and Tristan Melle.
In a surprising fourth series finale, Exie (pictured centre), stole the win after previously being eliminated, but returning to the contest after winning a shock challenge last week.
Series’ judges Megan Gale, Peter Morrissey and Claudia Navone, and guest judges Madison editor Lizzie Renkert and Global Production Director at IMG Jarrad Clark deemed her eclectic collection worthy of runways in Paris, Milan or New York.
The finale, recorded in early November , also included 2011 finalists Dylan, Craig and Johnny.
Exie wins a new car, a six page fashion feature in Madison magazine and her own show at Fashion Week Australia with professional stylist team, product to the value of $10,000, plus $50,000 in cash.
“I am so excited to have won; it is the chance of a lifetime to not only have won some incredible prizes but to meet and get invaluable advice from some of the biggest names in Australian fashion,” Exie said.
“I have also been privileged to compete alongside some incredible designers and made friendships for life. The whole experience has been incredibly exhausting and exhilarating at the same time, I can’t wait for the next chapter.”

Just watched this and was delighted Christina won. Her collection was so striking and cohesive – I loved it. Good for her!
I like that Christina had her own vision – very different from the others. But the amount of technique and construction skill that went into Leah’s collection was unparalleled. Plus, Leah’s collection was just straight up beautiful, so I was hoping she’d win.
I thought Leah’s was more retail friendly and commercially wearable than Christina’s. I was surprised.
Great come from behind win by Christina, who was an entertaining contestant throughout the season (she was so hard on herself it was hard not to cheer her on). Still, from episode one right up to the moment Megan announced the winner I thought Leah had it.
I appreciated the show motion and close-ups of the final runway shows; PR Classic could learn something from its little Aussie offspring.
Her collection blew my mind. Worthy winner
