The family of Schapelle Corby is suing the author of the book on which a telemovie for Nine will be based.

Mercedes Corby, her brother Michael and mother Rosleigh Rose have launched a defamation case in the NSW Supreme Court over the 2011 book Sins of the Father by Eamonn Duff.

Last week Nine announced a Schapelle telemovie for 2013 from FremantleMedia Australia which will be based on the book.

The book details “explosive” allegations that Schapelle Corby’s father Michael “Mick” Corby Sr, who died in early 2008, allegedly ran a drug syndicate and was responsible for putting marijuana in her bodyboard bag.

But in their statements of claim, the three family members said the book wrongly suggested they had been party to her father’s illicit dealings.

At this stage neither FremantleMedia nor Nine are directly implicated in the case.

The Corby family has always been closely aligned with Nine having given interviews to both 60 Minutes and ACA, whilst successfully suing the Seven Network over Today Tonight stories.
