What a find is Lena Dunham, performer / writer / creator, girl with a lot to say and plenty of style in saying it…

In recognition of the show’s sudden status, some tempting guest stars have jumped aboard for Season 2 including Chris O’Dowd, Rosanna Arquette, Carol Kane, John Cameron Mitchell and Patrick Wilson -and that’s just for starters.

The second season will air on Showcase in January.

Created by and starring Lena Dunham, the Emmy®-winning HBO series Girls takes a comic look at the assorted humiliations and rare triumphs of a group of women in their early 20s. Dunham, Judd Apatow, Jenni Konner, Ilene S. Landress and Bruce Eric Kaplan executive produce the show, which kicks off its ten-episode second season Monday January 14 at 5.45pm, express from the US on showcase.

Hannah (Dunham) is seeing a new guy, but still feels responsible for Adam (Driver), her bed-ridden ex, as he recovers from the fateful accident that ended season one. Disappointed at work, the recently single Marnie needs the support of her best friend and former roommate, yet the distance between them seems greater than ever. Jessa returns from her honeymoon, ready to plant new ideas in Hannah’s head. Newly experienced, Shoshanna struggles to navigate the challenges of a shaky relationship with Ray.

In addition to Dunham, who stars as Hannah, the cast of Girls includes Allison Williams (American Dreams) as Marnie; Jemima Kirke (Tiny Furniture) as Jessa; Zosia Mamet (Mad Men) as Shoshanna; Alex Karpovsky (Tiny Furniture) as Ray; and Adam Driver (Lincoln) as Adam.

Guest stars on the second season of Girls include Chris Abbott (Martha Marcy May Marlene) as Marnie’s ex, Charlie; Andrew Rannells (The New Normal) as Hannah’s roommate, Elijah; Donald Glover (Community) as Sandy; Chris O’Dowd (Bridesmaids) as Jessa’s husband, Thomas-John; Rita Wilson (It’s Complicated) as Marnie’s mother; and Jorma Taccone (Saturday Night Live) as artist Booth Jonathan, plus Rosanna Arquette (Desperately Seeking Susan), Carol Kane (Annie Hall), John Cameron Mitchell (Hedwig and the Angry Inch) and Patrick Wilson (Little Children) later in the season.

Hannah (Lena Dunham) tries to start fresh by dating a brand new guy and throwing a housewarming party with brand new roommate Elijah (Andrew Rannells), but it’s hard to move on when she’s still playing nurse to Adam. Written by Lena Dunham & Jenni Konner; directed by Lena Dunham.

  1. I’m with Shiraz, expected this to be crap but was pleasantly surprised. The real life of girls in New York not the Sex and the City fantasy world.

  2. This show was the big surprise for me in 2012. I assumed it would be a show for young girls, but instead I was pleasantly surprised by its broad appeal. I hope Adam still gets plenty of air time, he’s a truly original character. Series 2 will be a must watch for me.
