Robert Whittaker wins UFC contract

Sydney's Robert Whittaker wins The Ultimate Fighter: Aus vs the UK: The Smashes and a UFC contract.

Sydney’s Robert Whittaker has won The Ultimate Fighter: Australia vs the UK: The Smashes welterweight title.

The 21-year-old defeated England’s Brad Scott (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre yesterday.

He is now set to move to the US after winning a six-figure UFC contract.

“This is amazing – the moment I walked out into the arena I felt it – the crowd, the energy – I felt it in my heart and from that moment I knew already that I was going to win. I knew Brad wouldn’t be able to handle my power and that proved the difference between us,” Whittaker said.

In the Lightweight Bracket, Norman Parke defeated Colin Fletcher. Parke becomes the third Irish born fighter to earn a UFC contract.

The grudge between The Ultimate Fighter: Aus vs. UK coaches George Sotiropoulos and Ross Pearson was settled as Pearson won via a third-round technical knockout.

The highlight though, was deemed to be Hector Lombard finally living up to the hype by knocking Rousimar Palhares out cold to earn his first UFC victory.

The Ultimate Fighter: Australia vs the UK: The Smashes was produced for the first time by activeTV.

  1. @ Amaranth I enjoyed the series too and look forward to it next year if it returns. Rob was fantastic, but you have to give credit to Brad Scott, he was terrific too. I like the freakshow also, but Norman deserved the win with some great tactics.

Great series and here’s hoping they do it again in 2013.

  2. I really enjoyed this series and I’m so glad that Rob Whittaker won. It’s a shame that Norman Parke beat the freakshow though, I wasn’t expecting that.
