Rumour: Which Downton Abbey cast member set to exit?

There have been various murmurs of looming cast changes to Downton Abbey as the hit drama eyes its fourth season.
But today TVLine refers to “multiple sources” that indicate Dan Stevens will not return as Matthew Crawley (and no, that’s not a Spoiler… cast changes are news, how the character exits is a Spoiler).
Stevens is currently appearing on Broadway in a revival of The Heiress which led many to presume he would be departing, but creator Julian Fellowes downplayed that talk saying, “A lot of stuff started up because he’s going to be on Broadway, but it’s a limited run. But everyone pounced on that.”
However that now appears to have been a smokescreen in itself…
As for the idea of recasting roles, Fellowes recently confessed to EW, “I can’t see us doing that.”
Unless Stevens reappears in the occasional guest role it seems likely Matthew Crawley is headed for the exit door. Question is whether he is the only one.

They couldn’t write out Matthew Crawley any other way except in a death SL.
I wonder if it’s a good career move for Dan Stevens, getting out of what is undoubtably a successful franchise?
Gotta admit that my favourite DA actor is Brendan Coyle – love, love Mr Bates.
I hope he doesn’t leave. But I guess we’ll see. I still prefer they wrap up Bones first on Sunday nights and play Downton in the colder months.
I thought your headline was about the cast member who does depart during season three. But I guess thats old news.
Dan wont leave. This is a ploy as old as time for his agent to get more money for his actor and then leak that he may leave to the papers. The way the series is now structured there would be little story if he left and as the cast gets a little more depleted anyhow, it would begin to look like an episode of “Packed to the Rafters”
He’s so going to die. Don’t know how else they could get around it.
Its a shame that he is leaving. Surely Matthew has to be killed off. We had 2 seasons of will they get together wont they and now he is just leaving.
But im more shattered about another cast member that has gone as well. It is my favorite character.
It would be sad to see mathew crawleys character depart. Looking forward to watching the the next downton abbey series. I hope they don’t take too long to start it after the tennis. So what are they doing with bones? I hope channel seven will properly advertise what times bones is on. Channel seven don’t have online rights for bones for their plus7 website therefore it is hard to keep up when they show multiple episodes on varying nights. As an additional note the commercial networks need to have more content on their online websites. When things start late, finish later then the recorded time or have a late shift in timeslot it is very hard to keep up and people rely on the online content to watch missing scenes or missed episodes.
