Summer of Cycling on SBS

SBS’s summer of cycling begins on January 1st with the Mitchelton Bay Cycling Classic.

2012-12-20_1349SBS’s summer of cycling begins on January 1st with the Mitchelton Bay Cycling Classic, the world’s fastest criterium series.

SBS features commentary from Phil Liggett and Scott McGrory and reporting from Matt Keenan.

It will also broadcast the Jayco Herald Sun Tour and the Cycling Australia National Road Championships.

Victoria’s oldest and biggest road cycling race, the Jayco Herald Sun Tour, will return for its 60th edition in 2013. SBS will show highlights of this iconic event from Thursday 3 January, with commentary from Phil Liggett and Scott McGrory and reporting from Matt Keenan.

The best Australian cyclists will do battle for the green and gold jersey at the Cycling Australia National Road Championships. The Men’s Road Race will be LIVE on SBS ONE and www.sbs.com.au/cyclingcentral on Sunday 13 January and will feature defending champion Simon Gerrans It will be hosted by Michael Tomalaris with David McKenzie, with commentary from Phil Liggett and Matt Keenan and reporting from Alex Hinds. Cycling Central will also be broadcast live from the Cycling Australia National Road Championships at 5pm on Sunday 13 January.

Host of Cycling Central and SBS’s cycling coverage, Michael Tomalaris, said: “Last year SBS broadcast the Men’s Road Race at the Cycling Australia National Road Championships live for the very first time and we are excited to be showing this flagship event live once again. January is an exciting month for cycling fans on SBS as we continue our commitment to Australian cycling.”
