Perth-based entertainment show The Couch has just celebrated ten years in Community TV, all on a shoestring budget.

2012-12-21_0027Perth-based entertainment show The Couch has just celebrated ten years in Community TV, notching up more than 437 episodes.

The show began in October 2002, produced by host Fred Mafrica (pictured) from Westco Productions.

With its segments on Health, Entertainment, Music, Showbiz, Politics, Cooking and Charity, each episode is produced on a $500 weekly budget at the Performing Arts Centre at the State High School, Ballajura Community College.

After the collapse of Perth’s Channel 31 it moved to community channel Aurora Channel 183 on Foxtel and is now viewed by a national audience of around 200,000 viewers each month.

“The show is on because the people who work on the show love it, they want to work on TV and the people who watch want to see local Australian TV,” said Mafrica.

A 2 hour special was filmed this week with guests Chelsea J. Gibson, Reily Craig, Alcatraz, The Merinda’s, The Vans and appearances from Peter Ford, Senator Mathias Cormann, Senator Louise Pratt, Federal MP Ken Wyatt, Rove McManus from LA.
